Hello folks"
I have a cement mixer for 3 pt set up and it has a dump cyl with only one hose. How do I hook that up as my aux has 2 hose connections and if it has power one way how does it return to mix position Help! Ed Will

It must be a 'two way' cylinder.Look and see if there is a port on the oppisite end.If so,just hook a hose to it and be set.No port means one way only. Then you will need to change cylinders.

That's called a "single acting" cylinder. It depends on gravity or another external force to return it.

It should work using a single line, so long as there is "something" to return it.

Single acting cylinders were common in the old days.

The tractor extends the cyclinder out, and gravity will bring the cylinder back down. The oil comes back through the same line. In the old days the oil could flow back freely. Now adays the oil gets pushed through a relief valve on your tractor. So e tractors have a screw or lever to turn to bypass the relief valve a d make single acting cylinder work easier.

It is possible to use a regular 2 way cylinder as a one way. You put a breather (a mini filter to keep dirt out) on the one plug of the cylinder.

It is also possible you are just missing one hose, if gravity doesn't work to bring your cement mixer back down? Would have to see the design of it.

When you return the oil the other side of the valve will be pressurized and dead headed. Not a good idea. He needs a double acting cylinder.

Don"t just blindly presume, that, if a cylinder
has 2 ports, you can use it as a 2 way cylinder.
I have seen...1 way,(single acting) cylinders,
with a port in the rod end, designed as a breather
port,(a filter/breather fitting screws into it),
that had no seals on the rod,(extended) end, if
you used it as/for a double acting cylinder, you
might get an oil bath. I have seen Long lift
cylinders, off of a 2 cyl John deere loader, and
also Allis Chalmers cylinders built with no rod
end seals.

As others have said single acting cylinder so the weight of the mixer returns it a spring maybe. As for hooking it up lack of info makes it hard for us to help you help your self. Some tractor are set up to use both single and double acting cylinder with no problems others are not and you have to change setting etc. Say you have a Farmall 450 the valves can be set to work singe acting by turning a setting or double. So what tractor do you have so we can answer your question

(quoted from post at 11:14:43 01/10/14) When you return the oil the other side of the valve will be pressurized and dead headed. Not a good idea. He needs a double acting cylinder.

The single acting cylinder(one hose) on my Vermeer hay cutter has been operating fine plugged into one side of a dual remote outlet for several years with no problems. I agree either gravity or a spring will return the mixer bucket to original position.

What kind of tractor? If it's a 4 digit Oliver, there's a set screw that you have to turn out to use a one way cylinder.

On most tractors you can just hook into one of the
hoses on the tractor and it'll work but not always,as rrlund said the 4 digit Olivers won't.Zetors,AC 180 plus anything with a 'float' position will usually work.I'd just hook it up and see if it will unload.Or better yet just put on a two way cylinder then you can control it better anyway.
