aerial photos

you can also buy these photos back to 1939 & approx. every 10 years after that, from your USDA office.

I found the home farm, but only in 1938, and yes, the building locations are right for when the folks bought it in 1943. No views of the later years, tho.

Would love to see old pics of this place from back then. I encountered what appears to be a foundation while attempting to put in a couple blueberry bushes.

Yea my county is only 1938 as well. The neighboring county pics almost just about overlap but not quite.

Ditch was a meandering creek, the county road ran different, the fields are all different as grandpa went around the wet areas.

My place has 1 more barn than now and a large orchard in 1937. Our place and many other farms seem to have 2 lanes in / out, to go where ever more directly. Many of those lanes are now just old field paths today. There was also a post office close to us, now long gone. And, obviously, many newer houses. The most interesting thing is plowing is done on the contour now, and was not then. Every field was arrow straight.

In our neck of the woods, you can always tell where an old house used to be by the flowers growing out in a field. Makes me sad in a way.

Too many horses in field for any flowers. I'm thinking maybe founation of a barn as is located in yard area of property. Hoping not from old outhouse since place built in 1840 lol

1938 here also. There was still a draught so many low areas were being farmed or hayed, I can see grain shocks, bundle stacks, and a lot of hay must have been raked with a "dump" rake. Appears to be a lot of field roads, small odd shaped fields. I could spend hours on this site.
