NAPA battery

well I was out of town Monday and the wife's car battery went bad Ford car so went to local Ford dealer in town they replaced the battery with a NAPA battery instead of a Ford battery so I called them and they said the battery are the same price and that they are out of Ford battery I have never used a NAPA battery before just how good or bad are they? not real happy with what they did but once she left dealer out of luck just have to live with battery thanks Howard

I'm not positive but I believe I read somewhere that both the Ford and Napa batteries are made by Exide. I've sold and installed many Napa batteries over the years and never had an issue with them. They have as good a warranty as anybody else. It's unfortunate that your Ford dealer didn't call to give you the option before installing the battery. Good luck!

I bet the battery is $89 at NAPA and $120 at Ford.
Never liked Exide batteries. They are cheap made. Good luck with yours.

I used to like NAPA batteries, but lately I have had a lot of problems with their 84 month batteries only lasting two or three years. Walmart batteries worked better in the same vehicles.

Battery took a crap in my '03 Ranger this week also. Replaced with an Interstate battery. They have given me good service.

I have had bad luck with NAPA batteries in the past so havn't bought one in 10+ years.

Don't know if things have changed since then.

I run NAPA batteries in everything. I get the top of the line ones and have yet to have a problem. I thought I did last spring with my 2 trolling motor batteries but when I checked the dates on em they were both 6 years old and past warranty.

I can just imagine going down to my local NAPA to get a battery . What kind of a truck is it? 2 door or 4door? automatic or manual? What size engine? What color is it? DON'T HAVE ONE, but we can have it here tomorrow. UNLESS the black guy is there and overhears the questioning then he has it sitting on the counter before the other guy finishes his routine.

According to my local NAPA, their batteries are NO longer made by Exide, and have not been for about five years. Exide got in financial trouble and had a bad run of batteries (not sure which came first), and NAPA dropped them as a supplier due to premature battery failure.

Just bought my third battery from NAPA in the past four months, guess I will see how this goes. Price wise the NAPA batteries are about what Walmart batteries are, and the service from the folks behind the counter is much better than Walmart. I will gladly spend money at a local small business with good customer service over the mega marts for a few cents.

NAPA batteries are now made by Deka. I grew up with Deka batteries and have always had good luck with those, Napa branded should be no different.

NAPA batteries are made by East Penn/Dekka. They're about as good as you're going to get in the aftermarket. It will be pretty close to the MotorCraft for life.

A little off topic here, but I had to order a part for a Dodge
car from the dealer a few months ago. Waited about a week.
When it finally came in it was in a NAPA box. And was broken.
Went across the street to NAPA and they had one in stock.
Dealer paid NAPA for it and gave it to me at their cost.

Installed one in jeep 6 winters ago. Had mechanic test it this week. It was NAPA's 75 mo. maint free battery. Test showed battery now has 87% of CCA's of when it was new. Vehicle never in garage,driven daily. NAPA gives excellent customer service here. so IND

I've had good luck with napa battery's, I wouldent worry about it, but if you have a problem, take it back to the Ford dealer.

That explains a few things, I started having problems with NAPA batteries bought in 2010. Two had to be replaced under the pro-rated warranty and the replacements didn't hold up either. I hope the problems went away when they changed suppliers.

Interesting to hear that some here have had good results with NAPA. Local NAPA store picked up Interstate line bout 15 years ago when they were having a bunch of problems with the NAPA batteries. We switched to John Deere back then and didn't pay attention to local NAPA store switching at that point.

Don't know what Deere did about 4 years ago but unless it is a warranty when the Deere comes out I am putting in Interstate now.

About same thing in Central Square only slightly differant...... went there yesterday to see about plug wires for SadieMae, white guy told black lady "look in Beldin book", 2 more times telling her that and she looked in correct book. In short only took 20 minutes to to get wire and seperate parts ordered.
I hate going to Advanced Auto for stuff as if you don't have yr, make, model, color they have NO CLUE what to do. I aked for a in-line fuel filter. Was asked for above info, told them a 72 MTD garden tractor. Talk about 'blank stare'.... Then told them "try a 1970 Plymouth Duster" and they found what I wanted on computer but didn't have it (of course!!!). Went next door to NAPA and was asked "what size line?". had it in stock

Neither Dorf or NAPA make batteries. The last time I researched this, there were basically 3 US battery manufacturers.

Napa has had a poor reputation for battery life for a while now, From recent personal experience, within the last 3 weeks, 3 different people I know have needed batteries replaced. All 3 were NAPA batteries. All 3 were 2 years old or less. All 3 were higher-end batteries. I got to replace one of them, just over a year old, in a driveway at -20F with whatever tools the owner had handy, which is not my idea of a good time. Hopefully yours lasts, but be sure to save the receipt--if my experience is any guide (and I'm far from the only one with similar experiences!) you're apt to need it, and sooner rather than later.

I put a napa battery in my shop forklift and within 6 months it was week.Napa gave me a new one and it did the same thing.After putting up with hard starting and jumping it to start in cold weather I installed a menards battery and it starts fine now.

I've only gotten 2 bad batterys from NAPA in many,many years.One 12 volt and one 6 volt.I'm pretty sure that 6 volt had been on the rack for a long time.

My local NAPA told me that east of the Mississippi, the batteries are made by East Penn, and west of the Mississippi were made by Interstate.

bob has it right there are basicly only 3 manufactures of new batteries,these companies place the logo of whoever buys them on the same basic battery case, as for napa i have 2 in my personal fleet one is 2 years old one is 5 years old, both are as strong as when they were new, mantenence is important, keep it clean, keep the connections clean, bright, and tight

Guy's name is Scott couldn't think of it last night til after I shut down and went to bed. He's like me, runs older stuff and fixes it himself, I went in there one time to get a set of points for a Kohler The new young guy who knew everything was looking thru the computer,Scott told him to try the Kohler book. Scott was waiting on another customer while I was waiting for Mr. know it all.Scott picked up the points on his walk thru the storm and put them on the counter while mkia was telling me "we can have them here tomorrow"
Another time I needed a ferrule for a gas line which they didn't have, but resourceful Scott cut of a piece of rubber gas line and said try this. It's still working fine on the tractor.

If you have a NAPA battery go bad in the replacement warranty period they will replace it but will pre-date it from the time you bought your first battery. Don't like that.

Stand your ground. Tell the Ford dealer that when he gets the battery in to call you and you will come down and they can swap them out. Easy for the dealer to put that NAPA battery back in rotation.
If he balks ask him for the phone number of the Regional Ford Office.

I've had good luck with Costco batteries. They are made by Johnson Controls.
