This pickup is a six-cylinder with 100K miles on it.It has a very small oil leak that comes from the bottom of the bell housing. If it is the rear crankshaft oil seal, is there some "stuff" I can add to the oil to stop this leakage? If so, what might that be?

Lucas oil additive. When I bought my 2-135 White,I don't know how long it had sat on the dealer lot,but I bought it in the fall. When I started spring work with it,oil was running out of the rear main seal in a stream about the size of a pencil lead. I poured a bottle of that in it and by the end of the day it had slowed down to a drip. After about two days it dried right up.

I put a new clutch in it this last spring and put a new seal in while I had it apart. The old one didn't look bad, still didn't leak, but whatever was wrong to begin with, the Lucas additive cured it.

pburg.. is that the straight six?? My old 92 which is now my sons has 140ish on it. Great truck .. his is a 4 speed overdrive manual.. Son and I just did a clutch job on it this fall.. hyd slave was leaking..So while in there did a complete overhaul.. works like new..

Make sure it's not coming from higher. The pushrod cover on the drivers side of the engine will leak in the back corner and run down the bellhousing making it seem like the rear crank seal is leaking.

My brother had a Ford pickup that the oil pan developed a hole because of rust... Think Ford replaced it for free.

That old 4.9L six is just about bullet-proof. My '91 had 195xxx on it when I sold it. Too bad the rest of the truck wasn't rust-proof, I'd still be driving it-I really liked that old F150.

Plus the oil pan gaskets are bad to push out.. The good thing is you do not have to use that one piece P.O.S. OEM gasket as a replacement...

My 1993 F150 has 275,000 miles and is still a good truck.I hope to make it last till 300,000 but the body is starting to show some rust.

Yes, I second the pushrod cover. I replaced one the gasket) on my last Van (1992) at about 140K. It does look like a rear main leak.

Funny you should say that. My "92 F150 had the oil pan spring a leak from a tiny rust spot. I thought it must have been a fluke, but maybe it was more of a problem for those trucks than I thought. I like my truck, it only has 93,000 miles on it, but the body is rusting out pretty good on the rocker panels.
