Snowy conditions

For you military folks, former and current, that know of Fort Drum in upstate NY just to give an idea how the snow is up there, they are currently CLOSED for a 2nd day in a row. Weatherguesser just said maybe stop snowing by Thursday afternoon.
So glad I live an hour south of them. Sun is even shining here. Temps hovering around 10-15*

Many years ago when I was stationed in Groton CT there was one time the base was shut down due to snow. At the time I owned a Dodge van and had 3 foot antennas on the roof. I always parked it between 2 hills where the houses where and that morning we could not see the van or the antennas. Had to use the handle of a broom to find it so we could dig it out

I was in Watertown area about two weeks ago & there was two feet of snow on the ground. One of the area weather forecasts predicted about 21 to 26 additional inches of snow the last two days. The Tughill area can get 4 to 5 feet in a matter of hours.

I'm about 35 miles west of Watertown and we got some nasty blowing and such, but didn't get anywhere near as much snow as Watertown and Tug Hill. I can see Tug Hill from my house on the opposite side of Black River and it looks like they got busted off and on all day. One lane open in places on Rt. 177 this morning. That's the thing about lake effect storms. can't see the front of the hood and 5 miles further down the road it's virtually clear.

Sandy Creek and Pulaski getting hit right now 12:30 AM Thursday. Glad I'm at the lowest point of Tugg Hill Region and don't get what they get :)
2 years before we bought this place Fulton (the zip code we live in) got 7' in a few days.
So far worse we've gotton was 3' in 24 hrs.

Currently on TV is a lake effect warning for my county till 1PM Thursday.

My Dad once had a 49 or 50 black Ford and parked on edge of road and lawn. During the "blizzard of 66" he tried to go to work only to realize only part of car to be seen out the house window was the door handle. Took him a while to dig it out of the snowbank so he could get to work plowing Interstate 81 with the grader.
There are youtube vids of that snowstorm (go figure!!)
So how long did it take you to dig your van out?

My oldest boy works in Watertown. He's spent 2 days there so far because he can't/won't drive his moms Jeep on the roads. Why? He says people are insane and there are crashes all over and he's not risking his mother wrath by getting in an accident just to get home!

When I was stationed at MCAS Cherry Point NC in the late 70's/early 80's we had a "Major Snowstorm!!!". No kidding, the whole area was paralyzed and in a blind panic over 2" of wet snow! You could tell the northern boys, they were the ones driving along at 45 mph with out a problem while all the Dukes of Hazzard wannabes were sliding off the road. It was hilarious. Everything was closed, there were people in a panic, the news made it sound like the end of the world. Funniest thing was seeing a 6X dump going down the road on base, chains on all wheels, and 2 guys in the back shoveling BLACK DIRT TOPSOIL onto the road in an attempt to sand the roads! NC's coast is nothing but sand and some genius, probably an officer, determined topsoil was the same thing......

Well for the most part we did not dig it out. We did dig down to the front door. We then got the chains out and crawled under it and chain it up on the back. I fired it up and let it sit and run for a while then just drove out of the snow drift. With chains that old under powered van would go just about any place. It was also around 5800lbs so heavy
