Lake Effect roll call

Just wondering how my fellow board members are making out in the heavy snow off the east end of the lakes. Right here it is mostly clear with no snow and winds 15 to 20 miles or more and the temperature is at 4 degrees F. The power went out about 3:30 AM and the generator would not start. We boiled water in two pots and kept the kitchen and den at 60-61 degrees F. Power came back at about 7AM. No livestock here to worry about.
I-90 is closed from Henrietta on west and looks like some guys are going to measure snow in terms of feet but not us.

We're usually just a few miles too far inland to really get the bulk of it. Most of the last two days though, the wind was strong enough to blow it in here. We still didn't get as much as they did just south of here from the "system" snow.
When I hauled milk back in the mid 70s I hauled over in the lake effect area. Always a lot tougher going over there than it was closer to home.

I have not seen much snow here, only about 6 inches of new but it is blowing around a lot. From what I heard it sounds like the heavier snow is a bit north of here.
Zach

HEY I was up there about ten years ago!! Tell the folks what is in the middle of town! The local boy who made good. It is really funny. I will check back tomorrow and see. Jeffcat

Were just off the east end of the Lake Erie plume. Have gotten only a couple inches. However the wind's blowing it all over causing intermittent whiteout conditions.

I-90 is shut down from Victor to the PA line. Just heard on the radio 390 is now also closed.

Good day to be inside by the woodstove!

The big roll of lifesavers. E.J. Noble invented them and they named the hospital after him. I live half an hour from there. No lake effect here yet it usually stays south of here.

Only a bit over a foot so far, but I'm just off Tug Hill and so missing the worst of it, though it's still snowing and is supposed to continue through tomorrow. 4 feet plus in places on the Hill, with more on the way. I81 is "officially" closed but the troopers aren't enforcing it and people are still traveling it, though I'm glad I don't have a reason to go over 177 to get there today!

Here around the Rochester area some of Lake Erie snow reaches here - enough to cause some visibility issues but not much accumulation. For you guys around the Tug Hill area my in laws used to live in that area so I know how that gets. Spent one Christmas there and it never got above 25 degrees below zero for the whole weekend.

Been getting steady lake effect snow off Superior for over a month now. Had accumulating snow everyday since December 3rd I think it was. UP to 170 inches of total accumulation now.

20 miles south of buffalo in South Wales Ny. First time in the 28 years we have lived in the house a water pipe froze. Not in the pump house under the stairs where I thought it would be, actually inside the wall above the pump house which is under the stairwell leading up to the living area. Below zero temps with 30mph winds will do that I guess. Drove 20 miles home from work last night around 10 p.m. Only had a couple times were I was talking out loud to myself because of white outs. Oh, and my son put our 4wd pickup in the ditch (on the wrong side of the road).AAA got him out this after noon. Bill

Brutle cold and wind here but no snow, on US RT20. The thaw and rain melted the snow down and what is left is ice. No snow for insulation what so ever. Temp has risen to 2F and windchill up from -24 this morning, to -14 now. Had a couple clippers roar through, but no acumilation. Lots of snow devils whirling across the fields.

Not much snow here but lots of cold wind. PUT SOME HAY INTO THE BEEFERS AND IT WAS NOT TO BAD WHEN I LOOKED AWAY FROM THE WIND. But it was h--l when I went back into the wind and the barn.

Reminds me of that old saying,[ when the going gets tough the tough quit]. Or something like that.

Down here in Lyndon in Catt. Co. was 14 below this morning wind blowing hard, some whiteouts, but very little snow! Not my kinda weather! Stay Warm!

Well, close enough for open-site Internet purposes... :) Still snowing here, though not a lot more accumulation.

-30 degrees last night wind chill. Have about three feet of level snow on the ground,..lots of snow drifts on the country roads. Still have sub zero wind chill temps tonight into tomorrow morning. It has been brutal the last two days.

Northwest Indiana got about 15 inches of lake effect snow.Yesterday, the high was -12, with wind chill of -45.All the interstates were closed, opened up today.

Jeff, if you mean Gouverneur you must be talking about the Life Savers monument. The guy that invented Life Savers candy, Edward John Noble, was from Gouverneur.

I'm east of you near London Ont.Monday night everything was closed north of here.I work 25 km away in St Marys and couldn't get home monday night. The cops had hwy 7 blocked and were supposedly giving 500 dollar fines for going around the barricade with 4 demerit points on your licence for good measure.I tried to get home cross country and ended up stuck.A kind farmer pulled me out at midnight after I walked to his door and woke him up.He wouldn't let me shovel or crawl under to hook up the chain and wouldn't take anything for helping me out.I got back to the plant and stayed in the cafeteria until first light and got home in the morning. The family won't let me out of the house because they are so freaked out by my frostbitten ears.My son and I both work at a chicken processor and are on lay off until at least Thursday because it is too cold to move birds.New record set ,coldest since 1970.My brother and his family including new baby are camped at our mothers in London until things settle down.He lives in Owen Sound where they really know snow.
