Interesting take on the fuel treatment dilema

Was in 2 different truck stops today and saw this in both. Lots of selection for fuel treatments, but only one brand had cases of it stacked on the floor. Now I need to be clear, I've used most of them and never had one I thought didn't work. I just thought it was informative which one obviously sells the most.

The way to solve the whole thing is just buy enough of every kind to fill the tank and run that instead of fuel.

SO JOHN Are you saying the leader is 911? Tried some Lucas in 3 units here today . They are calling for low of 2 here Monday so untreated fuel may be a problem. I stopped 30 miles east of Dallas on 30 yesterday an trucker told me he was instructed to not treat his new unit because of the using the Blue stuff. This cold snap may try some of us folks from the south.

I would bet there is more difference in the jug they are in than the product. They probably come out of the same tank.

All you treatment boo birds can continue to show your ignorance, including the Canadian BUICK AND DEERE.

They work. If you are too stupid to use them then you deserve the reduced performance you get without them.

What's up with that guy, he thinks completely backwards from every one else? Maybe he had to much crown royal and hit his head on the ice playing hockey, or maybe his mates beat him unmercifully with a hockey stick because of his way of thinking! Lol

But look at that middle Howes box. It looks like the floor's been mopped a dozen times since it has been there.

Proud Howes user here. Same way here at the local Cenex and Farm &Fleet stores. There's a few cases each of several assorted brands and then there's a pallet of Howes. I own two Cummins powered dodges and have 4 IH diesel tractors. All of them have straight #2 fuel and are all treated with Howes. Most of December was sub zero here. My fleet runs just fine.

I've zoomed in a few times and can't make out the boxes other than the ones that say blue, is howes the yellow and black boxes? I see def in the photo, I really don't ever remember seeing howes around here, I could be wrong, or don't ever look for it. We have a pilot ill have to go in and look for howes one day.

Howes is in the yellow/black boxes. The first is DEF then the howes then some windshield washer stuff then a fridge, from farther away to closer.

I don't think B and D has any problem with treating fuel with anti-gel treatment. I think he is against the snake oil additives that supposedly improve performance and lubricity.

I can speak from experience that my local diesel shop wont warranty pumps or injectors unless you use Stanadyne fuel additive. They claim new fuel is "dry". As far as I can see the pumps last the same amount of time with or without the treatment. Some guys run treatments and swear by them but yet have no comparative data to back up their opinions. I wouldn't swear by any additive because other than anti get additives it would be difficult to confirm the manufactures claims. If it cant be proven to me then I'm not wasting my money.

I say the most important factor for any diesel components is good clean fuel without water, not an additive.

Thanks to those who explained the picture.

Around here there is shelves and shelves full of Power Service.

I got something else once, perhaps Howse, came in a yellow clear bottle. The bottle busted on me in the zero temps, split open and dumped contents on the ground. What little attitive I managed to use out of it seemed to work fine, but not going to buy any again if their bottle can't take the cold.....

I have no basis to judge, have run the tractors on Power Service and regular summer disel in winter since the 80s here because that is what the stores stock.

Power service is probly the second most popular in the truckstops. Not uncommon to see a few cases of that sitting there too.

This post is going to get as much talk as the CaCl post.

Rick: Hi my name is Rick.

Crowd: Hi Rick.

Rick: I use Power Service in my equipment and CaCl in their tires.

Crowd: Whispers, that guy really has problems.

Nope, it's not. Local Cenex here has two pumps. One is straight #2 road fuel and the other is straight #1 road fuel. Blend your own. They keep a tank of #2 dyed in the shop during the winter for us diehards too.
