OT: Chevy 2500 heater problem

My year 2000 chevy 2500 had the heater working fine last April. This November it won't work. Something went wrong over the summer when it wasn't used. Under the hood, BOTH heater hoses are equally hot. Anybody know what to spray or jerk or kick? Started to take the big plastic piece off the bottom inside the cab but maybe an easier fix? Its got the dial fan speed which works perfect. The dial for the heater (red & blue streaks) turns ok but only the merest amount of heat comes out with it turned all the way over.

Same thing happened to my 94 v6 last year. Heater hoses were hard to get to, but I took the one off at fthe back of the engine and took the radiator cap off. Then I stuck my air hose and blew both directions. I think it must have had an obstruction in the back of the block. When I put the hose back on and added the antifreeze, I had enough heat for 2 trucks. Just an idea. Tommy

check for a mode door motor that changes temp when hot cold switch is turned.Motor moves a shutter to change air flow either over heater core or over a/c condensor should be up under dash around the middle .should be a u tube video out there with directions on how to change they are reasonable around 40 dollars .

That happened with my car a few years ago. It turned out that the radiator leaked and it didn't have enough coolant to be able to push to the heater.

Not sure about this, just what I have heard: Have you got lots of air flow across the heater core? Did these trucks have an air filter in the htg/air conditioning system? Just a thought.

BINGO!! My 2001 had a filter in the chamber. Just like a furnace filter, only smaller. Actually, way too small to handle that much air flow. That filter was so restrictive that even the AC wouldn't function properly, and it was that way from the time it was brand new. I pulled it out and tossed it. Heat and AC work like they should now.

1. Cabin air filter.

2. Do a reset of the "blend door" actuator. Dealer can do it with their scan tool, manual way is as follows...

"Blend door reset:
Turn HVAC controls OFF.
Remove the 2 HVAC fuses from the underhood fuse centerfor 5 minutes.
Insert fuses or connect the battery and turn ignition to ON do not start
or touch HVAC controls.
Listen for the blend doors moving."

You may get lucky and this may cure your problem.

3. Failed blend door actuator.

4. Broken blend door.

If you have good air flow from the fan the core maybe clogged. Seen that happen before so we switched the hoses going into the core to reverse the flow into and out of the core.

..if the hoses are equally hot, the water is flowing OK. I have had mice get in the heater box and build a nest, you can hear the motor on the blend door working as you operate the heat knob, you may need to get in the floor tho :)
