Black eye peas

I do not post much but enjoy this site. Lean a lot by reading the advise here. Not a farmer but do have 3 older tractors. Just wondering if any of you eat peas on New Year's Day for good luck . Was always a tradition in our family. Happy New Year to all.

Never heard of that tradition....but then we don't have black-eyed peas in Britain....well except for the singing variety....and you all know I like Fergies!!!

Sam,
I like your version of the black eyed peas, the pictures at least. Me, I am getting older but have two girls that listen to them.

Dixie cooks black eyed peas in the form of Hoppin john or something like that. It has the pork in it in the form of smoked sausage this year. Also collard greens and corn bread. It all went down real well. Sothern girl thing I guess.

Black-eyed peas and ham last night at midnight; black-eyed peas plus cabbage for lunch today and again for supper tonight. I need all the luck I can get.

Pork and sourkraut here , had two helpings . Guess I will start the yr. out with a good cleaning out !

oh yeah ,, here is what I did this yr. jowl bacon , and pork pieces ,onions and redtaters , and lots of pepper with corn bread on the side ...good for the sinuses and all the other body parts

Wife put peas in crock pot along with ham hock when we went to bed. Smell woke me up about 4 and again at 6. I was having peas, ham hock and coffee at 6;30 this morning.

We just finished a meal of corned beef, boiled cabbage, blackeyed peas and a few fried taters for good measure. Has been on the menu on New Yrs day forever. This is in Southern Indiana , it may be this is passed down from generation to generation. We have German heritage in family.

Just finished Corned beef and cabbage blackeyed peas etc. My Ky girl must have them on New years day for luck I guess. Her best friend, a Mississippi girl must have Red beans and Rice. Most years I have both good thing too with my luck I need a double dose.

Pinkeye purple hull peas, first cousin of blackeye peas, from our garden this summer, collards, hog jowl, and cornbread. That's usually what we have here.

Dad raised Black eyed Peas, but we called black eyed beans. Mom fixed them a time or two, but our favorite was Lima Beans, and ham, which Dad also raised. Stan

About 5:00 PM my older daughter and her husband drove up, brought in take out trays. They had dinner, with his family and brought the younger daughter and myself supper. Had collard greens, black eye peas, ham, pork chops, corn bread and two kinds of dessert. I sure was grateful, because after an afternoon outside in the cool,I didn't feel like cooking supper.

Went over to Dad's this evening for supper. My SIL brought over black eyed peas with hog jowl and cornbread. Man, what a feast!

Yep, Blackeye peas and hog jowl in the slow cooker all day, then went and got a nice 100+ pound doe at edge of dark. Starten out right this year!!!

Haven't missed a year for as long as I can remember. Mama said that if you eat your peas on NYs you will have peas all year, meaning that you will have money to feed yourself if nothing else. I did and she was right.

Black Eyed Peas on New Years isn't written into law in Texas, but is assumed to be so mandatory that there's no need for legislative action.

Yep I et my peas New Year's Eve, NewYear's Day at lunch and again New Year's Day at supper...
