Corn Burner Cooking ???

I have had my CountrySide corn burner for 14 years, and I use it in my small shop. I really like it, mostly burn a mix of wood pellets and corn . I built a grate above the firebox on which I burn cobs, boxes, gaskets, dang near anything that will burn. Today while puttering around in the shop, I got to wondering if I could cook things on that grate, like burgers, brats , hot dogs, etc. Probably have to use foil or a cast iron pan of some kind, but not much space in there... Anybody tried anything like that ?

You said you use that grate to burn trash.

That may be what your food ends up like burnt trash. Unless you can burn the fire cooler.

May be to hot to cook right.

I would think that it would be too hot to cook anything, I will take a guess that you will have the door open while cooking?
I was told several years ago that a company was pelletizing cardboard boxes and these type of pellets were burning so hot that the stoves were melting. (I do not know if this is true)
Cardboard does burn very hot though.
Just to put in perspective, A small fire in a steel tub that is 6" x 3" x 3" is hot enough to heat a house.

i cook on top of woodstove works great but have to watch the heat. when i had a corn burner i used the corn from the bottom of the drying bin always the driest corn and burn the hotest.

You'll be cooking over an open fire like what's been done for thousands of years, only the heat is more concentrated in the corn burner. I have seen fireplaces that work a little like that. The food is slid into doors in the front of the fireplace above the fire. Jim

i burned some old hoses black smoke like crazy neighbor wasnt happy dnr after him for having a burn barrel and its my house first then neighbor then about a mile down wind dnr guess who got the blame! wood stoves make good trash burners

Well I suppose you could but why would you want to? I would just jump on the gator, drive up to the house and throw them on the stove top. That's where the buns and condiments are anyway. And you are going to need a glass of milk to go with it and what about dessert?

You might be able to heat you house with a fire that small if you live in Florada or LA I live in WA by Spolane and I have a wood stove that will take 16" fire wood and it is going all the time Dale

I remember years or decades back, a cookbook put out by some traveling sales guy that used to cook on his car engine while driving down the road. It saved him time and money he said. I'm not sure, but he may have even cooked fish as well. Reynolds foil works wonders.

Maybe next year I will try cooking the Thanksgiving turkey on one of the Deeres. Maybe mount it above a stack and smoke it.

Yeah sure, but you should see my condition after working in the shop most days ! Too filthy to enter the house without reprocusions, if you get my drift....
