OT: questions about overalls???

I've never tried wearing overalls but I got a pair for a Christmas present. How does one determine the correct size one requires. On this pair the legs were way toooo big around for my Killdeer legs. How much do they shrink when washed?? These were Liberty brand. I might wear them to drive my TRACTOR
Thanks,Jim

If they fit halfway decent around the waist and the length is about right that"s as good a fit as your gonna get.

Legs on overalls all run pretty large in diameter.

You get them with slim legs and the waist will be tight.

I have to get them 3 sizes to big for tractor driving. They seem to think most people are 5 ft tall and 4 ft round . I run 6' 2" and 300 and it took me awhile to find the best fit so when I went tractor driving they didn't try to chew me in half.

I always bought them in the same length and waist that I wore in regular pants until I had to go to a 40 inch waist. For some reason,I had to go from a 32 inch length to a 30. I went from 38/32 to 40/30. The 40/32s were too long and the bib came up so high it about choked me. And ya,Libertys. I don't think the legs will shrink up much in diameter. A little maybe. They're just better when they soften up from washing.

Liberty does have big legs. I wear a 32 x 32 jeans. I buy 34 x 32 bibs, either Key brand or carhartt. If I don"t I can"t button top ones around my bottom ribs. 5" 11" 164 lbs. Not a belly issue! Carhartt and key have smaller legs but thinner denim. Better for summer. Liberty will shrink some especially if not the pre-washed ones. Will get shorter too. Roundhouse brand are the only ones I know of made in <lUSA. Have a few liberty too. Turkey day Rural King had key buy 2 get 1 free. Got 3 more passing through Kokomo on the way home from Sikeston. The straps on liberty like to slide off your shoulder worse that the other 3 brands.

TxJim: Bibs usually fit in the legs more like carpenter pants or straight leg pants. They do not have tapered legs.

I have trouble with getting bibs to fit. If they fit around my belly they are ten times too big in the waist and legs. It is better now that I have lost 40 lbs. but they still do not fit correctly.

I wear Carhart insulated bibs. I just do not button the side buttons at the waist. That way I can get ones that fit better on my lower body and not be like a big pup tent.

Been wearing bib overalls since I was a kid, to get them to fit right I always go about 2 inches shorter on the inseam and instead of waist size I go by chest size and they seem to fit ok, legs are always bigger around than jeans but still comfortable to wear, I like the bigger legs cause during the winter it's easy to wear thermal underwear.

Since we talking about overalls, how do you keep them from rubbing nipples raw? I love to ware keys but they rub my nipples raw, and mine arnt large nipples. I prefer to ware without a shirt but I have the same problem even when I do

i wear them almost exclusivly, unless im going to the dr ect, even church is ok as long as there nice ones, i buy liberty brand too as thats what we have around here, buy them according to belly size, the legs will not fit like jeans legs do, there not supposed to, and adjust the straps untill there comfortable, not to tight when you bend over and not so loose that the top of the overall is down on the top of your belly wearing even a t shirt under them, ive never had any rubbing problems up top, and all extra pockets are a big help to tote things around in plus the bib part makes my shirts last longer although when they do wear thru its rag box time

The stripped ones are the "dress up ones"

Don't know about liberty brand specifically but I have always known Big B's to shrink. In Ontario most guys wear overalls over a pair of light trousers to keep grease and dirt out of the house so bigger legs are the norm.My granddad wore two pair of pinstripe overalls so he could shed one in the basement on the way in but still look fashioable. Our overalls are different too_Old farmers here wore zipper front high back overalls instead of the more common type that are more like a pair of jeans with a bib front.Ours keep the spine and kidneys warmer.Back in the day dairymen tended to wear pinstripe overalls while beef and hog men wore blue ones.

lol, but my nice ones are the ones that are still blue, dont have oil stains or a welding torch hole burned into them

Dad tells of a neighbor of theirs that was very stingy with his money! He would buy his bibs about 8 times too big and just make them work! They were the same price as the ones that fit, but had more material in them so he felt he got a better deal! LOL

Went to MFA last week to buy a pair of insulated Carhartt bib overalls. The store manager was there in the clothing part and he told me to go 2 sizes bigger on the waist and 1 size smaller on the inseam than if I were buying pants. This worked for me.

This doesn't answer your question but I tried too and failed.
Some guys around here wear nothing else.

My 2 complaints are when you have to do your business,
everything in your top pockets, (top pockets: Only reason you
buy them best I can tell) dumps out on the floor.

Other problem is that the bib is right over your chest and in the
summer they are hot.

My 2c,
Mark
