Got to replace the Crank seal on the pulley end of my 02 Taurus. Looking online I find some info but nothing step by step. How do I hold the engine from turning backwards? Must I use the special tool that goes against the ring gear? Where is the inspection cover on the flywheel? I don't see it. The pulley nut is LH thread correct? Is the pulley and shaft one piece as I see in some parts pictures? Or is there a pulley nut then the shaft/extension thingy that screws into the balancer? Lots of ?'s But you guys usually seem to know the answer.

I don't hold the flywheel on those because its pretty easy to use an impact on the balancer bolt, a puller might be needed to remove though. The flywheel access cover is at the rear of the pan, its just a little cover that goes into that little pocket area between the oil pan and bell housing. There is a special tool that engages a few teeth and wedges against the bell housing though.

The belt pulley bolts to the balancer, once the pulley is removed then the balancer bolt can be removed. The belt pulley should be LH thread, the balancer bolt should be normal RH thread.
