Christmas morning I felt fine, but as the day went by I could tell I was getting a cold. Today it's a full blown cold. So what old time farm cures can you give me. Mom would rub Vicks cream over my chest when I was little. Don't give me that one.I hated it. Thanks stan

Stan,

I use vitamin C religiously. I take one gram daily and if I feel any hint of a cold coming on, I take two grams each day.

I still occasionally get a mild cold, but it is infrequent and not severe.

Thank you Dr. Linus Pauling - RIP.

Mustard plaster mix 2 tbls powdered mustard and 1 tbl spoon flour . Add enough water to make a thin paste. Spread on a thin cloth and put it on your chest until it gets hot and then put it on your back until it gets hot. Go to bed and sleep it off. It may take a couple of nights to work. Tommy

Chief:

Slam the Vitamin C . It's very difficult to overdose on Vitamin C because whatever the body doesn't want is excreted through the Kidneys.

There's also the OLD saying: "Feed a Cold & Starve a Fever". Mom always used to give us Chicken Noodle Soup.

Good Luck and get better soon.

I put vicks on the soles of my feet, then old socks before I go to bed. I think it increases circulation in your whole body. Of course, if you can't stand vicks, you may not want to try it.

Another vote for zinc. Take it within 48 hours of the onset and it will shorten the duration of the cold. That's not an old wife's tale, it's been proven by medical research.

You can actually take too much Vitamin C. Actually assisted with a patient that had taken so much Vitamin C that her skin turned orange. She thought she had a weird kind of jaundice. Vitamin C, Zinc and echinacea seem to be the go tos for colds and flu. But the best is still rest and lots of liquids.

fresh baked buttered bread with gloves of garlic sliced on it. you can actually feel the garlic working in your chest. mm mm good stuff and have it even when no cold.
dad said ginger and warm beer, but never tryed that.
when we were young and went ice fishing and felt bad would get a shot of apricot brandy or cream de ment, that green brandy.

my grandma used to tell me
3 days coming, 3 days with you, 3 days going
time is the only cure
modern day I use vitamin C, some advil for the headache,
maybe some cold medicine on the worst days.
Don't know your overall physical condition, but for me,
getting up and working hard makes me feel better all
day...until I stop.
sleeping sitting up helps on the worst days.

I tend to load up on protein. The air filters in the Idle-aire systems helped a lot when I was driving truck.

Also found that a night in a bar seemed to help somehow when I was younger, and they could still allow smoking inside. Odd, I know.
