Tractor mounted backhoe

Anybody have a tractor mounted backhoe? I'm wanting a heavy one for say a 100hp tractor not one on a 30hp utility. What do you have and what do they cost?

Father-in-law had a 3pt one on his MF180. don"t remember the brand. Was ok, but not as good as one made for the job and mounted permanently on a tractor designed for the job. Got us by for the odd digs around the farm, but would not recommend for regular use. Hydraulics were run off the PTO, as I remember, and even at idle, they tended to react a little fast.

RICB Been in the implement business and Kubota dealer for years. For something heavy enough for 100 hp about the only brand is BRADCO . Sure you can find something on the web about them. Going to get close to 7 grand I am thinking.

Several years ago I bought a Ford 655A TLB 2 wheel drive w/X hoe and cab at auction for $11,000, or maybe $11,500.
I have a good heavy industrial loader, as well as the hoe, available at all times, without tying up a tractor. It doesn't get a lot of hours in a years time, but is probably the most frequently used item on the farm.

My two cents.

If you are going to use it any amount at all, a stand alone TLB is the way to go. My 580SE will runs circles around the 3 point mount I had.

Here"s a pic of my old set up. AC7000 with a Henry Mark IV backhoe. Took a while to fab up a mount plate since it came off a big Michigan loader.

It was not bad, but I was a very happy man when that 3 point backhoe left my driveway on someone elses trailer.

Plus for what a good one will cost, I bet you will find a complete backhoe for roughly the same price.

My two cents

I have to agree with the others. A TLB is the way to go. I picked an old one up a couple of years ago for 4500 bucks. Pretty stout unit, JCB 3CIII.

In a word,Dont.A big heavy backhoe will tear he!! out of a farm tractor. They are not built to 'carry' that kind of a load or abuse.First to go would be the top link. Then The 3point arms,houseings...Want to tear up your tractor? A good way to start. As was said, buy a regular tractor/backhoe unit.

For roughly the same money as it will cost to add a new hoe to your tractor you can buy a good used TLB that will be much more capable.
I bought a Ford 555 in good condition 3 years ago for under $8K. I'd recommend a Ford 555 through 555D, or a Case 580C through 580E. Ford has a stronger hoe and a stronger loader but Case would still be an excellent choice.
For a little less money you could get a 4500 series Ford TLB. They were also very good machines.

Similar to Rick Kr my neighbour has a JD 51 backhoe mounted on an IH 574 tractor (yes thats a discussion in itself). It is mounted on a sub frame that was fabricated to mimic the mounts that Deere had on their crawlers and industrial tractors. This makes it an integral unit, not one flopping around on the 3 pt hitch. It mounts with two J shaped hooks at the bottom and two pins at the top. To remove/install you drop the stabs. and the bucket to take the weight off the tractor, pull the pins, push the hoe up out of the jaws with the stabs.and pull the hoses out of the couplers.I would bet its on and off quicker than a 3 pt rig.

I have a dis-guarded hoe off a Davis trencher. It is a D-100. Mounted the hoe onto a frame that has quick attach, Cat II pins. I use a JD 4055 to power the hoe. Park works good to keep it still and plenty of oil for the hoe. If the hoe is too fast, just turn around and adjust the volume control valve. Mounted a seat that came on a JD A way back then.
Paid $900.00 for the hoe with a new 15" bucket. I has a depth dig of 7 feet.
Biggest problem is moving. Have to get off and move the tractor and then get back onto the hoe.
I have used the hoe mounted like this for nearly 30 years. It is on the tractor right now, dug out a water line leak for a neighbor last Saturday morning.

Shallow digging depth/limited reach are some of the problems with add on hoes. An average size TLB will have a digging depth of 14-15' with the hoe.
