I didn't think that I was old enough for this but ,I have bought two new tractors from companys that are now gone. In 1984 I bought a brand new IH 584 and in 1993 I bought a new 5640 Ford Both companies are now names in history. Who eles has bought new, only to see their brand end. Any Olivers,Cockshutt or MN's Bruce

Unless you buy strictly JD I would think almost everybody has one. We have a Farmall M, TD 14A, and 240U that we bought new back in the day. Did buy a new Versatile 950 back in the day and our next tractor had to be a Ford Versatile.

Dad and grandfather had purchased several new JD's. Then they bought a new WD circa 1950. Then Dad bought a couple new AC's. Then he and I bought a new AC 6060 in the early 80's. The drive train of that tractor was all Fiat anyhow. And I guess we know the rest of the story on both companies.

John deere is the only company that hasn't went belly up or changed names several times.

You may think that you bought a tractor from its original builder not so even old names like Caterpillar were made by the Holt Manufacturing Company in Stockton, CA I used to drive out Benjamin Holt dr. To get to my boat in the marina.

I got to reading about John Deere and found that their first tractor the Waterloo boy was bought by John Deere and became there first tractor. Darn does anyone know of one of these old companies that actually designed and built their first tractor.

not a tractor but I have an Oldsmobile or 2. A '98 Intrigue and a '75 Cutlass Supreme with the Olds 350/4bbl. Remember the Chevymobile scandal?

You mean when GM tried to sneak Chevy engines in Oldsmobiles? Ha! They got what they deserved on that one. About like their trying to sneak diesel performance in a gas engine block.

In 1962 Dad bought a new Covair. He was working at GM at the time. He was also looking closely at Studebakers, his brother was doctor in South Bend Indiana. I heard him say often later "shoulda bought the Studebaker" :)

I am so good at picking products that go out of business that I think I will start an advisory service on what stocks to buy ! I will give you my list of picks......you do the opposite and you will be rich !

My first car was a Plymouth, third car was a Pontiac, fifth car was an Oldsmobile, first Pickup was an International, and all my Tractors were Farmalls.

John deere designed many tractors but proved to be to expensive for the market or unsuccessful

My understanding is that the Holt (a Ca. based company) and Best (a Peoria, Il. based company) companies merged to become Caterpillar company based in Peoria, Il. Armand

The top picture shows a big "what if". JD was further along with their cultivator experiments then IH was at the time. JD quit and IH kept going eventually turning it into the famous Farmall. The Dain tractor in the bottom pic was a very advanced tractor for its time but the selling price was twice what the Waterloo Boy was.

Yes your correct and that's why only 100 dains we're made and sold as for as the b100 sklovsky designed I don't know if more than a couple were made time for some light reading I guess
