Hello

Do any one know how to dismount the powershift unit on à quad range transmission in à 4440
The traktor i split and i have loosen the bolts around the unit but it wont come out.
Do i have to dismount the valveunit in the left side?
Or the lever for the hi-lo in thr right side?

Thans for answers

I don't know anything about a JD 4440. I just want to say hello. It's good to finally see another Scandinavian post in here. I do know however that an operators manual and a parts list in English as well as in Danish can be bought online in DK if you need them.

Memory tells me that you have to remove both, the valve on the LH side and the hi-lo shifter "fork" from the pack. I am old though....

Where do you have the tractor split? By your questions it sounds like it is split between the clutch housing and transmission. It will not come out that way as a unit. Need to split at engine and clutch housing, then remove the clutch operating housing and clutch valve (clutch valve and nipples first). Remove the hi-lo shift fork from it's shaft and remove the short output shaft from inside the unit with a hooked wire. Then the hi-lo can be removed as a unit from the tractor. You could possibly disassemble the unit from the rear but it would be tricky getting it all back together in a vertical position. I have never tried it that way.

Hello

Thanks for good answer.
The tractor is split between engine and clutchhousing
i probably split the clutch also because i see its some strange metal chips in the bottom of the hex hole.

Ok so its only to take away the clutch valve first and then the
hi-lo fork
will i do that from inside?
i can see there is a pin in the inside of the hi-lo to take out and then pull out the arm?

Is it only to loosen the bolts on the clutch valve and the tubes
and then pull it out?

thanks

I can't tell from your description if you have the clutch operating housing out of the front of the clutch housing. It is the round cover in the front that holds the pistons and bearings that operate the pto and traction clutches. The clutch valve is on the lh side of the clutch housing with the clutch control rods connected to it. The clutch valve and tubes have to be removed before the operating housing. Once the operating housing is out the hi-lo shift fork can be removed. Remove the pin and slide the shaft out of the fork to remove it. In the center of the hi-lo, remove the guide bushing for the trans pump shaft with a hooked wire. Behind that there is a short hollow drive shaft that has to be removed. There is an oil hole in the side of the shaft you can hook a wire in to pull it out. You will probably have to turn tho planetary gears to line up the splines for the shaft to come out and also support the weight of the hi-lo housing so the shaft will slide out. After the shaft is out, slide the hi-lo assembly forward out of the rear bushing and roll it over the pto gear. Hope this makes sense and sorry if I duplicated what is already done.

ok thanks for a fantastic answer

but one more question

when i look into the cluch house this is what i see

two shafts in the middle
clutch bearing
one (inner ring) of 5 bolts
one outer ring of 6 bolts

is it the inner ring with 5 bolts that holds the clutch operating housing

and the outer ring of 6 bolts holds the operating housing?

Thanks C-J

Take both rings of bolts out. The inner ring holds the hi-lo unit to the operating housing and the outer bolts hold the operating housing to the clutch housing. The hi-lo has to stay in the clutch housing as you remove the operating housing. Email me and I can give you my phone # if you have any more questions. I'm usually not around the computer during the day other than lunchtime.

hello again

big thanks for your help
i will try this tomorrow morning and let you know how it went

im from sweden so i cant call you.
i will just sound stupid

Thanks so far :D

Ok
Now i have taken it apart
And now i understand how good your description was
The Fault is à broken planetary gear and housing
So now im in à Hunt for à new one or used

Thanks for all help so far
C-J

Glad you got it apart. The last one I needed the carrier for I got a complete unit from a salvage yard and rebuilt that with new seals and disks. Good luck in your search for parts.
