Once upon a time.....

There was a site called Yesterday's Tractors. The site was mostly about tractors and farming. There were discussion areas concerning different makes of tractors and how-to areas to help the less experienced ones to repair and maintain their tractors.

Nowadays, I suggest that while almost every new thread starts with either OT or O/T, the policy should be cnanged. Posts that concern tractors and/or farming should now begin with OT, and those NOT having anything to do with tractors should no longer begin with OT.

Just my observation. Not a criticism. I actually enjoy reading about the various things that other old geezers are talking about! I especially enjoy the pictures!

My suggestion is to change the name of the forum to more accurately reflect the discussions of daily life.

Hope I did not offend anybody.

I'm not offended- hope you're not when I point out that if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Your veiled sarcasm is duly noted, but reversing the definition of "OT" from Off Topic to, presumably, On Topic, would serve no useful purpose and would simply be confusing.

If you go to where it says "another forum" you can ask anything you want to about any brand you have a question about. Nothing hard or confusing about that.

jim most of us just talk until someone asks a question, had you asked a tractor question the whole group would have gladly given a "tractor" reply. Now since you did not have any tractor related discussions you just get more OT talk.

I have been around here on the boards for many years and I can't see that it has changed much except for new and different handles and a lot more people.

Sorry Jim, but the nature of this forum hasn't changed much, and I've been posting here for over ten years. (My current handle was registered in '04, but I used a different handle for several years before that until someone else registered it.) I'll go a step further and say that it has been much worse; there were a few bad apples that had to be banned for not sticking to the rules.

When you've been here a few years and have a few thousand posts under your belt, feel free to bring it up again. But right now, most folks are happy with Kim's rules, and she seems OK with us posting whatever we like as long as we don't break those rules.

You can always start your own site. In fact, at least one malcontent already did. Good luck.

I understand what you're saying, but think about this:

I post OT stuff here because the people on this board have a wide range of life experiences, not JUST tractor experience. Many are older (no offense!), and that's good because they've seen a lot more than I have - I want to learn from that experience! I have gotten very good input over the years on several non-tractor, yet 'rural' problems that many other people on this board have also dealt with.

If you think about it, with as few tractor posts as you see here were it not for all the OT posts the place would probably become a ghost town.
I like it as.
If I need specific info about a particular tractor, tool or implement I'll just go to that board.
And no, I'm not offended.

Everyone seems to use the "Tractor Talk" forum for their OT posts. All the other forums .as the Beach Boys sang it, "stay true to their school".

I know what OT stands for. Is there a rule that says to use it? Why use it? Is it a substitute for OK as many people start off with? or Yo dude? Why make the announcement why not just start off with the statement or question? Makes no difference to me if it is about tractors or not. I have noticed that people that like old tractors seem to have basically the same interests, problems and concerns to tell about or ask about. My computer gives me the option of whether or not to open a post.
