My combine suddenly started blowing oil out of breather. It has 2900 hours did not use oil in previous 100 hr.
Whats wrong broken ring, hole in piston or head gasket? Is the combine worth fixing? It is 6600 that has been in the shed all its life and has a
new concave and several hundred dollars of other new parts.

It might be worth it to fix it if the rest of the machine is fairly sound. You know this machine after all. Worst case scenario would be getting a take-out from another combine for 2500 dollars or so. There are a lot of 6620's out there with fancy repaints but the rest is unknown. A new to you combine might pan out or it might take thousands to square it up. Certainly worth a look to pull the cylinder head off your combine.

Yes,Id say fix it.But ask yourself this. Can I replace it with another machine that I know is as good as what I have. Are you planning on keeping it ?does it do the job?The fact that you already spent several hundred says you were planning on keeping it.If the machine is otherwise good, just fix the motor and go on.I spent $2500(new engine) on a $1000 truck last year.Couldn't replace the truck with another(just as good or better) for that,so I spent the money to fix a good old truck.Becides,I dont plan on ever getting rid of it so cost is immaterial. There is more to it than just "dollars and cents".

If the combine is in good shape and is doing what you want it to do and you can still get parts, then by all means fix the engine. It's not worth much as a trade in with a bad engine. An overhaul is a lot cheaper than buying another used machine that might have an engine that's about to give up the ghost. Jim

How's the oil level ? is it overfilled with diesel or antifreeze ?
A bad injector could be washing down the cyl. walls. If caught in time it may not of ruined the piston.

'nother thing to consider. With a bad engine the thing is worth nothing more than scrap iron. And you have already spent several hundred. You want to throw that away? And what if the 'replacement' needs the same or more work/parts?Fix it! At the very least, pull the head and have a 'look see'.
