converted a 6volt system to 12 volt should the starter be changed to 12 volt or can I get away with the 6 volt thats on it thanks

Hi, you do not change the starter. I have converted a couple over to 12 volts, did not make any change. The other thing I might mention is I have not came across a 12 volt starter for those old tractors, other than one from a newer model that was made as a 12 volt. Everything will work out just great with the starter that is presently on the tractor. Keep in mind that starter's once in a while do require maintance. Cheers, Murray

Your 6 volt starter will work. Just remember not to crank very long at a time. I converted a John Deere B about 30 years ago, and the starter is still going in it.

I bought my jubilee converted to 12v. Only one down side, it will 12v spin the starter drive off. May want to have a spare one on hand. Not sure if anyone sells a heavy duty starter drive. I found many spare parts to old starter drives in the bell housing.

starter will be fine, i ran my original starter for another 20 years after the jubilee was converted to 12 volts, i did replace it with a 12 volt, last year, i dont think it maters to the starter as long as its not just ground and ground for long periods of time,

The early diesels had a twelve volt starter.
