2001 2599 Chev transfer case

This was a thread several days ago about a transfer case in a big chey. Several days ago my son said he heard a noise in the transfer case of our truck. We found it didn.t make the noise in 4 low or 2 high. It sounded like it was jumping out of gear in 4 high and would clunk when it caught again. Is there an adjustment on the floor shift to center it in gear. It is a 8.1 engine with a 6 speed manual tranny, I"m getting to old to crawl under it. Getting warmer here and son is off this weekend to help out.

better get it checked out soon, some of those have a snap ring that fails and the gears wear a hole through the case all the fluid runs out and you buy a new transfer case.

Sorry man, time for a t-case. Around here having one rebuilt is the same money as just getting a complete unit from the dealer.

Casey is transfer case failure common in chevys My bosses 03 chevy 2500 Silverado is thumping in 4wd Its the 6,o automatic thanks Greg
