Monday evening a NYS Trooper mad a routine speeding stop on I90 exit 27 Amsterdam. While setting in his troop car a semi. traveling in the left lane, suddenly vered to the right and rearended his troop car and then the speeder's car. Both were transported to Hospitals in Albany. The 9 year vetran trooper, died yesterday from his injuries, and the speeder is still hospitalized. The Canadian truck driver was asked to remain in the area, whitch he is doing. He had gotten tickets for logbook violations last Friday, but the cause of the crash is still unknown. Not alcahol related. The trooper is survived by two young children, one with health issues and his wife. Verry tradgic.

Man, another one gone. IIRC 2 of the guys I came onto the NYSP with died the same basic way. Thoughts and prayers to his family.

I'm sure the truck driver "didn't see" the trooper's car sitting there, even though it was lit up like the Vegas strip.

I live in NY. I travel the expressways and see people pulled over by Troopers every day. The cars are PAINFUL to look at, there are so many wicked bright flashing lights and strobes!

It is State law here that you must move to the outside lane when a policeman has a vehicle stopped on the shoulder. It is surprising how often it is impossible to move over becasue the car outside you (outside lane) is oblivious, on the phone, doesn't notice all those lights flashing????? It would be proper for them to help make space for you to change lanes.
Same is true of on-ramps.

That does not apply in this case, but it is irritating that so many people drive with their brain disconnected.

The same law applies in NC also, but as you said, when you need to change lanes under those circumstances, some idiot is beside you passing, which means they are exceeding the speed limit. AND half the ones I see don't even bother to change lanes!

There is that law here in NY, your supposed to move over a lane if you can, if not I think you have to reduce your speed by 20 mph of the posted speed.

That law is one of those "if you can" laws. If you can't then what do you do?

A lot of people complain about the way many PO's park the car so it's still in the roadway. Many people that get pulled over don't or can't get any further to the right than the white line. The PO leaves his car a bit more into the lane for protection, at least that's the idea.

I was inspecting a truck one day on the side of the road. I was bent over looking under the truck and felt something hit the notebook in my left hip pocket. A nice old lady had gone to the left around my van and pulled right back into her lane and the front of her car hit the notebook which stuck out at an angle. She lived just down the road and I went to see her after the inspection. She told me she thought she'd get a ticket if she stayed out in the road which would have put her over the center line! That's as close as I wanted to come, thank you very much.
