Ford fuel line disconnect

I am trying to get the fuel pump lines apart on my 02 Ford E 450 chassis, which my motor home sits on. I know how they are designed to come apart, but I can't push the tool in enough to disconnect the coupling. I have no room, and can get only my hands at the fitting. If I had a tool to clamp on the line, and push the fitting disconnect tool that would work. Is there a tool like that. When I replaced the fuel filter I used a screwdriver to push against the filter, to seperate the coupling. Thanks for any help. Stan

I have the pliers Leslie makes and then use them to push the little plastic release tool into the fitting.

Make sure you have released all pressure in the line before you disconect it. If you have a manual it will tell you how if not I will try and talk you throuh it. Took me three days of cussing till I bled the pressure off and they just fell apart.

JD Seller ,,I have every fuel line tool know to man EXCEPT those ! Did not know they were avail . Getting set today . Look pretty handy . Thanks for posting those,,,,Tool Junky !

Use some spray oil on it and then push the filter onto the line while also pushing on the tool to release the lock fingers.

Try pushing the filter toward the release tool... I have had to pry the release tool toward the filter and the filter toward the release tool at the same time

Not one of the auto maker better ideas. Why they don't just use a spin on filter like we had at work on the rental trucks. All the rental trucks where ordered with the same type spin on gas filters, Made it easy and quick to change without damage. Should be able to get one and change it to one from good auto- truck parts house. Sorry I don't have the part numbers needed.

Before doing anything with the disconnect tool blow out the fittings with compressed air. You MUST get the sand/grit out of there before the tool will work. The retainer fingers can't be retracted if the grit is under them.

Get a pair or so of Knipex brand adjustable pliers. They really grip and are easy to adjust with a pushbutton release.
Handles don't go all the way together ( like most channel locks do )so less of a pinch danger.

Are you replacing the pump ? If so, I just cut through the ends of the pump fittings and then remove the stubs once the pump is outta the way, makes it a ton easier. If not replacing, blow out the dirt, spray lube or oil in the fitting, hit it with air again to force the lube in there, twist if you can, and then the tool should get it. I sure do hate all of Fords wacky connections, makes it easy to assembly the vehicle on the line, to hell with the service guys.
