Radiator leaking, old style with cast iron tanks

I posted on the MM forum also. The radiator on my MM G705 is leaking down at the bottom. The thing is very heavy. Are these as easy to repair as the modern types? With it being so heavy I am wondering how easy it will be to find a shope to work on it. Can they be pressure checked when they are dismantled? I am expecting twisted off bolts if I have to take it apart.

A good radiator shop can repair them, just like any radiator. If the core has to be replaced, broken bolts are common. But they can be repaired as well. Many broken bolts are not in tapped holes, so they aren't a problem.

Thanks for the response I will check with the guy I usually go to. Might also ask around if there are any shops that work on big heavy duty units. it doesnt look like any bolts go into the tank in contact with coolant so maybe they won't give much trouble.

I took the radiator for my Oliver s 55, to the radiator shop, which I had been using for 30 yr's. It had a small leak in one of the tubes. I got a call the next day, and was told that I needed a new radiator, and that mine had blown up on pressure testing. For $500. they could order me a new one, I went in to get the old one, and pick up the new one, and unsuccessfuly, tried to talk them into admitting, that they were negligent in there testing, and wanted the radiator at their cost. $600. later I left with my new radiator, and the old core ( which they didn't want to let go of) I WONT BE BACK!

How much do you use the tractor? The water was pouring out of my JD 70. The guys in the tractor club said to put some black pepper in the radiator, so I did. No leaks since 2009. I use it often, but not much real heavy work anymore. Chris

I want to use it for some field work. This leaks seems to be pretty bad. I have it in the pickup now going to take it to a local shop to see if they can do anything with it.
