hey guys will diesel fuel go bad I got a farmall 560 im haven trouble starting I drained the fuel out of it tonight it just doesn't smell right

I was just reading an article from BP.. they claim it can stay good for about a year and then will develop a sediment causing issues for filters.

If you have soy diesel in it get it out and get some straight.we learned our lesson and will never use bio again

Well about 4 to one looking down several says it will go bad. I can say this in my 70 years I have cranked several pieces of equipment that had sat for periods of 3 to 5 years. Guess a lot of it would depend on other conditions like exposure to heat ect. Doubt that your fuel is bad enough that it want run I would expect things, like weak batteries causing slow turning over, washed down or dry cylinders causing low compression, or injector pump stuck in the off position, just one old man,s opinion. I,ll tell you what do mix a small amount of 50/50 gas and oil. Put it in a spray bottle, remove the intake hose there at the intake, spray a little in and tell me what happens.

All I have to say is , I bought a 91 6.2L diesel chev 2500 that sat for 12 years. Pulled it home put a transfer pump and a new filter on it and fired it up, I had no fuel problems. Jim

It can, usually with a lot of water or algae. With that said, I bought some back during the shortages from Hurricane Katrina that was pump out from underground tanks at a decomissioned military base, it had been in underground tanks since the 50's. Bought some this spring that no one knows how old it it, environmental company was cleaning up some 'forgotten' tanks and were selling it for a buck a gallon. Service station where the tank was took out their pumps 20 years ago. Never had any issue with any of it.

it was red farm fuel it had a smell to it like old gas smells I wasn't sure so I drained it what will the 50/50 gas and oil do that's a new one on me it wont fire on ether

The oil gas /mix will bring up the compression. The tractor has sat and the cylinders are dry and have no compression. Forget the starting fluid and give it a good dose of the 50/50 and a strong battery thing will fire off.

T do you know what I mean when I say crack an injector. Need to go up on the engine and loosen the nut on about 3 of the injectors. That will also help the old pump bleed out and make it more likely to fire off.

I took one injector line off a crank it over looked like it was pumping fuel I loosen the injector lines and crank it and that bleeds it is that what your saying thank you sir

the soy is not the problem it is the animal fat they put in fuel to make bio, everyone assumes all bio is soybean oil, it isn't
