The original subject was "Re: Joystick controls for a JD 158 loader on a JD 4430".

Where can I get a joystick and control box for an early model 4430 cab tractor, working with my John Deere dealer here and he says that tractor is so old John Deere didn"t make such for it???? I also understand I need a "power beyond"??? Please help...

They still make loaders to fit those tractors. It would be bought as an attachent bundle for a new loader. I have one in my 4230 to use with a 260 loader.

Well first off go to a different JD dealer. Yours is not telling you the truth. They still make the whole goods bundle for all of the Sound Guard body tractors.

Second DO not use a power beyond block to run your loader unless you want it to be SLOW!!!!

Follow the supply line that goes to the three point lift housing down to where it hooks on to the pressure supply. I remove the steel line and put a Tee fitting on the lower end and then a rubber line back up to the three point housing. This will be your supply. Then you can return it to the sump in the back Or I usually just drill an tap a 3/4-10 hole in the filter cover. I install a JIC oring fitting. This will be your return port. Hooking it up this way will work WAY faster and be cheaper too.

The whole goods number of the valve and joystick control is BW13247 list price $1030.70

Hose Kit BW13247 List price $147.20

Then you will just need to have the supply hoses made.

Have the dealers service department look up this service bulletin: SIB 89-10-5-10. This will show the locations to hook to for supply and return oil.

Email me and I can send you pictures of one I just put on a JD 4430 last year. That will show you the valve and where to hook up.

I mounted a 740 loader and joystick for a friend last year in his 4430, go to a different dealer or salesman. He ran his off of an scv and was quite happy, but I also replaced his trans pump before I mounted the new loader but he had a 148 on it before and was pleased with the speed. chris

Boss had one put on the 4430 and 158 in the spring. They mounted it a little different than in the 4450 and 740, and works a little better (easier to reach). I think the supply comes off the top of the left remote. The valve block mounts to the right side under the cab, the joystick mounts in front of the shift lever, and the lever is curved back over the shifter a little.

The 4020 and 158 will still lift more than either of those will.

Parts key #4 is the auxiliary hyd outlet AKA PBY that I think is too high priced especially by the time one adds the price of the hoses to go from LH rear scv to under RH battery box.
R54312 Manifold ADD 266.88 USD

When I installed JS valve on 30,40,50 & 55 series tractor I just attached hose to hyd pressure line on RH side at parts key 24A or 24B and returned oil to rockshaft valve housing,

On the cable/JS controlled hyd valve I would get one from Surplus Center or Bailey Hyds.

I bought a power beyond block a few years ago on EBAY for $25 . There are some on there now and 1 is at $52. I have 2 of them and they are not slow.

No not me. The parts in this photo is R54312 Manifold ADD 266.88 USD from JD. Your setup when new was probably $1000-$1200

No the part on ebay is just the block that goes
behind the SCV valve to feed your controls From JD
that kit is around $260 I think your price is ok.

I think that block must have already been there, the paint is the same color as the rest of the machine. The return oil I believe goes to the filter housing, there's only 1 hose to the rear on all 3 machines.

I can't get it in my head how this would all connect up and what goes where, looks like the joystick is too close to the couplers (maybe if it wasn't a cab tractor?), what are the 2 separate pieces for, etc.?

What more exactly joystick would you look for? Any links by chance? Some say a straight hydraulic joystick mounted in cab is OK too, versus cable? I have know idea, just asking?

OK, looks different in 2 pictures than what I was "seeing" before. Makes more sense now, is there not a cover to go over the "remote box" however? Wonder? Was it plumbed into a power beyond block? If it is slow I may need to do it the other way with a T? Sounds more complicated??? But sounds like would be "better"?? Ben email me, we can talk about price? (or anyone else can email me directly as well) at: [email protected] allen at tennesseeland dot com

If you have a JS attached to hyd inside cab then hyd hoses have to be also run inside cab which requires big holes for hoses to be run through floor VS small holes for cables to be run through as shown in photos below.

Thanks!!! I do understand the need to put in more and larger holes. Just kinda wondered which is best and "cheapest" I guess mainly, working on a limited budget. Also, just wondering again? Where did you get a diagram, part #, etc. for a joystick to fit that tractor when my JD dealer couldn't? I found an aftermarket hydraulic joystick at Baileys??? But would be "nice" to have JD, but may not can afford it? I have read other forums where cables break a lot and can be a pain??? I again have no idea just asking? Also, wonder how this one is "suppose" to be plumbed in, power beyond or T it in.

The cables can break very rare though. On 3 loaders 2 of mine and 1 of my dads we have replaced 1 cable since 1987. If you ever want to see a mess put the hoses in the cab with a cableless valve and see what happens when 1 of those hoses breaks. as far as the power beyond block slowing the loader action down In my opinion it don't We have 1 on a 1969 4000 and 1 on a 4440 and also 1 on a 4450 and they are fast

(quoted from post at 17:54:18 12/14/13) This one is a different joystick setup than the very first one you showed isn't it? What's the difference? Wonder which would "fit" better in the 4430 cab?

the plate next to box is more mounting like i said thai came off a 2255 but it can be plumbed any way you want like jim pic and no there not cover that i remember but we look we e-mail you after supper if it hasn't burnt

Glenn, I put a fosse valve on my 4430 to run the loader. It is around $500 and all you do is run wire to a switch then to the valve and plug the valve into the remote on your tractor. I had mine up and going in about 30 minutes. Here is a link to fasse and you can browse to see if it would work.http://fasse.com/

The diagrams I posted are readily available on JDparts.com. The JD parts person you talked either didn't know where to look or was just LAZY. I don't know who stated the PBY slowed down hyd's but that is incorrect but I personally don't like the cost of the plate plus the extra hoses required. If you haven't noticed hoses are expensive. I've attached many loaders on JD tractors by teeing into hyd's and they work fine. I wouldn't entertain the idea of running hoses to a valve inside the cab on a tractor of mine. As I previously stated you can get cable controlled valve from Surplus Center. Be sure and get a CLOSED-CENTER valve.
