Farmall h wide front

Just to update I bought a wide front. The guy told me he took it off a MTA. Got it for 150 bucks!! Big surprise, it bolted right onto the front of my h!! Every thing lined up perfect! I was told a M front wouldn't fit on a H? I guess I was told wrong Haha!

The question is, which person told you wrong!
Looks good-and at least it's not that crazy one with the tie rods in frount of the tractor, like this super C- not one of the IH engineering departments finer days.

Haha exactly!! Yeah I would never buy one with the tie rods up front. I use it in the woods a lot and tie rods up front will just get hit and bent to crap!

The guy lied.Or he just didnt know his a$$ from a hole in the ground. From your smug comments, sounds like you dont, either.Measure the width, the 'draglink' bolt pattern.... That is a 300 front, not M/400....

Yes that part from a SMTA will bolt up to a H.
Now if the steering arm fits the steering shaft and the rear ball socket frame bracket fits it didn't come from a SMTA. On a late wide front like that the only deference between what fits a H and M size tractors is the two items I mentioned and the spindle and wheel bearing sizes. But if equipped with the cast wheels for the spindle size they will work on both.

@DeltaRed , Your "snuggs" comments aren't any better. If you would have read what I said I mentioned that's what I was told. If I knew I wouldn't have put that on there! I don't know what it came off of. Once again read what I wrote and I said that's what I was told it came off of.

Yeah like I said I don't know what it came off of. Everything fit like a glove. I used hubs from a m because my rims wouldn't fit the hubs that came with the front end

Don't even take woods! Wish I had a photo on hand of the one we have of an M- tie rods are 2/3 welds, 1/6 added metal and 1/6 original metal, and curved like"(". And the worst part is, the tractor came out of central Arizona farm land=not many trees.

I been told lots of things, too. But just dont rub it in our faces!I 've swapped several H/M Etc fronts,So I know what I talking about.Nother observation.I dont see the 'ball socket' bracket on the tractor.Did You get that?If not ,dont run the tractor! There is nothing to support the side/side movementYou're gonna tear off the front. If you 'woods activitys" result in bending tie rods, better slow down and watch what you are doing.BTW,I got about 40 years of experience on those old farmalls

Haha holy cow thats bad! My grandpa uses a m with a wide front in the woods all year round for fire wood and gathering sap. His doesnt have any welds and barely any bends in it. I guess its all on how ya drive it lol!

Those are 'old style' hubs. They fit H/SH.The M wide fronts used the same bearings as the N narrow.M narrow used a bigger, heavier bearing/hub.

Read what I wrote! I wasn't rubbing anything in anyone's face! Simply stating what I was told! And yes I know about the support that connects on the back brace. Haven't put it on yet. Sorry forgot to put it on there for ya. And I never said anything about bending tie rods. This is my first tractor but I've been around them my whole life. I'm not stupid.

Wow.one post you say the woods will bend the crap out of the thing. The next you say your grandpas tractor doesnt have much damage.?????

I really appreciate all of the help full tips, hints and any other info people are willing to give. I'm still learning a lot of different things about these and I'm always ears open to what people have to say. Never meant any negativity towards anyone. Simply was saying what I was told

My grandpas has the linkage under the tractor like mine. Was simply telling the guy that I would imagine having linkage out front like what I've seem on a lot of them would probably get damaged way easier.

I too have an
H and M,each with wide front. One has a Norden, the other has a Swartz. An H/wide front will make you a nice tractor. The lateWf you have is a better front than the old front tie rod type.(didnt mean to offend/start a fight)The alternator setup looks good.Happy tractoring!!(never mind us old grouchy ba$t@rd$!)

Thanks on the complements and help. I really do appreciate everything I learn and that people tell me about these. I custom made the alternator brackets because I didn't want to cut the hood. Thanks again for the info. Sorry about the arguing

I had the old style on my m for 25 years..Never bent it.'Loaned' to a neighbor once.He ran it into a fence post and bent the crap out of it.His excuse:"I didnt think I was that close".....Grrrr

Regardless of what tractor it came from you got it cheep enough.
That type wide front didn't come out until 1954, but IH sold it as a attachment for H and M if someone wanted to install them on the previous built tractors.
One for a H fits H through 350. One for the M fit M through 450. Parts were the same for both except the steering arm (different bolt patterns) Ball socket support that bolts to the frame rails(different width between the two) and the spindles, H through 350 cast wheels fit the one intended for a H and M through 450 wheels fit the other.
Since you needed M cast wheels that wide front could have came from a SMTA. But if the steering arm and the frame support fit you have mixed parts. Nothing wrong with that if it fits.
