ford 7710 external tank heater

where is the best place to put an external coolant heater on a ford 7710? Looks to me like you could put one in the cab heater hose fairly easily..but should it be closer to the radiator?

What kind of loop circuit for convection flow would that provide?
Heating coolant to have it flow through the radiator defeats the intent.
External tank heaters should be connected with the tanks lower "cold" connection to the lowest coolant port on the engine block.
The upper tank connection needs to the the highest point on the engine or coolant manifold .That is below and on the engine side of the thermostat's valve.
Don't loop the hot line up past and then back down into the coolant passage.

My 7710 has the pump type. One port is in the block, just ahead of the starter. The other port is about 2" ahead of that and up in the head. Heater hose size.

Actually the hot coolant can go in the block drain and the cold coolant can come from head or near the thermostat housing. As long as one inlet or outlet is higher or lower than the other. Taking the coolant from the head and returning it to the block drain eliminates the heated coolant opening the thermostat and flowing into the rad as sometimes happens. Which ever way, the tank heater must be below the bottom inlet or outlet....Ron

The quickest, easiest, cheapest, most effective thing you can do with a 7710 is install dual 750W core plug heaters in the right side of the block. One slightly behind the starter, one out in the open. Quick and easy and the heat is against the cylinder wall where you want it rather than circulating through the heater core...
