Traction or Flotation?

Just saw this on CL, thought you guys might get a kick out of it! Pretty sure an un-styled JD B doesn't need that much tire under it, but I guess you never know! Bryce

Figure another grand to get some less ridiculous rubber on the back. There's not a JD collector alive who would take that thing out in public with the turf tires.

I wouldn't be surprised if that came off a sod farm. You get into the ground around Waterloo WI, and you get into a lot of peat. They grow a lot of sod down that way, and you see a lot of old tractors on really fat rubber.

Not to burst anyone's bubble but those are for pulling dead wheight on concrete. They due that alot at The Oakley, Michigan show :)

don't get me wrong, I love the B's, but...

at 16hp, could they even spin a regular ag tire on concrete?

I'm not a puller, I really wouldn't know.

You are just about dead on. I picked up a 950 Deere years back from a friend that needed the an extra $6,500 in divorce money. It had 28" turfs on it, same identicle pattern. They were about the most useless tires I'd ever run across. If not on perfectly flat land, AND dry flat land at that, that sun of a gun wouldn't budge because they were like slicks. And now that you mention it, it was about a $1,000 to replace them with 8 ply Goodyears as I recall. Got them before Goodyear got out of the AG tire business. That is my bionic compact tractor. Another $3,000 in splitting it, new clutch, rebuild trans. I figure I got the only $10,000+ Deere 950 in the world. Son of a gun, I forgot all about that until I saw them turfs and you mentioned $1,000 to replace them. $10,000 950 Deere. Ahh man, I better mosey on out to that barn, turn on the lights, look at it and pinch myself. Hold on, I will be right back.

Yep, its down there. Sure is. What was I thinking? He was married to her, not me. What was I thinking? He still owes me a whole lot of beer, that guy. Somebody asked the other day about what dumb stuff we did? There's another one.

That one doesn't appear to be set up for pulling. Also the "B",s that pull are probably closer to 45-55 hp. Course they are still stock ya know.

You are right. Perhaps I spoke too soon. I don"t see any wheelie bars and the drawbar wouldn"t be right. It does look like a wheight bracket on the front. Perhaps a stroked motor would account for the price? I don"t pull much but I love to watch. They usually have wide worn combine tires on the concrete and those don"t look worn at all. Perhaps it didn"t pull well? Looks kinda cool to me. Definitely unique!

I assume the "BC" in your name is for Bay City,MI?? I'm over west of you in MT. Pleasant and also attend the Oakley events and the big cement pull in Shepherd every spring at Maple Syrup Fest. Surprising what they will come up with for cement tires. RB

turf tires, either its used on a sod farm or used to mow and the owner doesnt want cuts in his grass, the other possibility is its just a tractor ride tractor, the turf tire would provide a smoother ride than ag bar tires on hard surfaces
