A new record

Somebody was saying on here just the other day that a new world record low temperature was set in Antarctica at -137F. They were saying on AgDay this morning that another new low was set down there at -138.5.
Isn't is supposed to be a week or so before summer down there?
Mike Hoffman said too that there's a mass of cold air over Siberia that will make its way down over the lower 48 before Christmas, even colder than we've been seeing. Yippie.

I think the Antarctic record was set in August, IIRC, which would be equivalent to our February.

Great news about the Siberian thing, too. Just what we need.

Yeah, I can see that set up on the NOAA 6 day forecast. Deep low pressure moving up from southwest of Alaska to right over Alaska at the same time a high pressure system off the left coast will move up to the coast of Washington creating a trough of low pressure from Alaska through Canada all the way to the Gulf states. Tha will pump that cold air straight dow through the middle of the lower 48.
I'd say six-8 days out for us here.

I thought they said ion NBC that it was measured by satellite? They didn't have an actual on the ground reading.

Look at the bright side. Will probably kill off a lot of bugs. May put a dent in the number of box elder bugs and those Asian beatles.

Check the date of when it was set. It was back in 2010 and it was measured by satellite according to the fox news website.

Well,we're supposed to believe it's getting warmer based on satellite readings,so pick your poison.

If we can't believe the sources about global warming, how can we believe that this Siberian air mass is coming to get us?

Frankly, I would like to see a REAL winter for a change. I had the most fun back in college with my crew digging cars out of 3' of snow behind the dorms. Of course I was younger and stupider, but a real winter here would give me an excuse to upgrade my snowblower.

TIP: Buy a new snowblower BEFORE the storm gets there! Dealers will hold prices up after a big storm.

I sure do not want the winters to get like it was 20 + years ago. I remember it being below 0 for weeks at a time. That was rough.

Do you want my heating oil bills? He was here last week. $910. He'll be back the first week of January....and February......and March......
Old fashioned winters,no thanks.

Rrlund, You listen to Mike? Must live in Michiana some place. I'm South of Bass Lake.Way too cold this week for me. joe

Actually, if you look at the official "adjusted" temperatures, the satellites show lower temperatures than the official temps, just as you would if you calibrated your thermometer and recorded your high temperature each day.

Our local radio weather guy is much more accurate than the "grown ups", as a general rule, and he's saying the same thing- another cold snap next week, even colder than the last- bundle up!
