We received a 60,000 lbs machine today. It was trucked from Ca.. Mapquest said it is a distance of 2024 miles. It was an over-sized load also. How much would you estimate it cost for the trucking?
Thank you

Well it was over size and over weight too. So it was a permitted load for two reasons. I would bet that the fright cost well over $10K maybe even close to $20K.

That would require a few extra tires on the ground, special loading, rigging considerations and work at each end, and escort. I'll venture a WAG of $10,000.

Would need a little more information to get it right. We move heavy oversized loads all time. When you go over 12 ft wide and have to add two escorts things change . Heavy up to 100,000 lbs and Less than 12 ft . In most states we can move for $7.50 a mile plus permits. He had several states to deal with on that trip . Two thousand miles $ 7.50 around 15,000.

I've got no insite on oversize loads, but I'll bet the guesses so far aren't have enough. Fuel alone will be close to 2000.00 just to get there.

Apparently more than you saved by buying the machine 2000 miles away...

I really don't know much about the cost on oversize loads... but on a nominal load of that size, 4 bucks a mile... that's over 8 grand alone. If you need escort vehicles then doubling that is probably not out of line... then add your permits. That could easily be another few grand... so now you got a bad hole in 20 grand.

Like some others said not enough info.
Yes it was oversized but do you mean over width or over height.
Over width under 12 ft is no big deal.
But over height requiring a 3 axle double drop and maybe even a special route to navigate low bridges adds up quick.

The reason that I asked is that one co-worker said he believed that it may have cost as much as $50k to have it delivered.

The machine is a Moire Seiki NT4250DCG. It was definitely wider that the trailer. The fork lift came from the cities on another trailer. A smaller fork lift came on a third trailer along with the ballast to be loaded onto the bigger fork lift. The forks on the bigger fork lift were at least 5 inches thick and it had smooth, solid rubber tires.

This is the second machine of this size to arrive. We will get another one by next spring. Each of these machines requires three feet of concrete under it. It takes three days to level and align everything before it can be run.

Fully tooled up, it is close to a million dollars each.

Call a large shipping company get an estimate then look around to see if you can save a few dollars. But be sure they can do the job ask if they have ever moved anything like it before. Get the height, length and width make you are at lease over by a couple of inches so there won't be any problem. Get the exact weight if possible they will weigh it before shipping.
Get insurance for the trip or you may get stung real bad if it's lost or broken.
Talk to an expert in shipping large item it will really help you a lot.

They are good machines, but can be easily damaged when moving if its not done right, when you get a chance look at the controls on them pretty amazing equipment.

Let's start with the INSURANCE Cost =How much was Needed to even Pick Up the load [1 Million or 10 Million ]in Coverage ! High Priced Equipment Have a Lot of Hidden Cost's like this, It's not old farm Equipment.I would Think around $15000-20000 ????

I don't know about the trucking costs. It will take some additional shop time to install, recalibrate and qualify a big machine tool like that.

When your company runs the machine, what hourly rate will they charge for it?

Contact the railroad. We had a 60 ton vehicle
shipped from Chicago to MD by rail. Check shipping by water to WI. Hal

Well by the time you get escorts, permits, and routing in the 50,000 is pretty close. You will need at least 6 axles if it is longer than about 30ft then a stretch is in order. That just upped the price. The tarping would cost more than they will pay to do it. Then it may require some police escort through some towns or to get it into the local area where it leaves and delivers. If you need a pole car that will be about 2.00 mile just for that. I would say 50,000 is just about right.

What does that bill out at a hour running $500 plus?
The machines we used to buy the tooling was almost 1/2 or more plus the cost of machine. Are you running it?
