Potash recommendations?

What do you-all think about the U of I report? In effect it says that we are using potash to no avail! Did I get it wrong? Vic
 
Well that's what I got also but didn't mention beans. our ground is always below the 250 to 300 recommended level need do some more study
 
I haven't read the article. The title of this conversation caught my eye because- several years ago when I had the local ag place take soil samples, I told them to split each one and send half to the out of state lab, (which many fert. places liked to use, apparently good for sales!) and the other half to the local lab/ag university.
This is when I learned that soil testing is not science, like I supposed it should be. Apparently it's voodoo!
Results were opposite! Out of state lab said I needed K. Local lab said I need P, and badly! So, whom do you believe?
Out of state lab recommended something like 240# N for corn, which is ridiculous here. Local lab was in the 140-150# range for N on corn- much more realistic for us.
So I went with the locals, quit spreading potash(still tests way high- surprise-surprise!)
I'm putting a little over a maintenance level of P on, still tests very low. I will really have to dump it on to bring it up. But at least crops have done better.
 
Most cheap and free soil tests are useless or worse as you found out.For a good accurate test I suggest Kinsey Ag Services not cheap but you'll know what you have when they finish.Also let a patch of weeds grow that'll tell you as much as anything about what your soils needs and what it has too much of.
