Farmall A and 10kw generator

Depends on how much load you put on it. My AC C will run my 25/15KW just fine running the house and/or shop. If I try to run my 10 HP centrifugal grain drying fan, a 40 HP tractor won't do it! Next size up I have is 60 HP, and that does it easily.

No reason why it wouldnt run it 2 times the HP a portable one has for 5kw. The A needs to be in shape gov running at full rpms what kind of drive input does your gen have pto or belt run.

(quoted from post at 08:14:19 12/10/13) No reason why it wouldnt run it 2 times the HP a portable one has for 5kw. The A needs to be in shape gov running at full rpms what kind of drive input does your gen have pto or belt run.

A 5 KW generator typically has a 9-10 HP engine.

They make a good many PTO type Generators that are to be used with the common older 545 RPM PTOs so yes it can run one but the HP limits the KW you can handle. Many times I wish the generator I have was a PTO type instead of having its own engine on it that way I know I would have something to power it with out messing with trying to get it up and running again. Have not run this 6.5KW generator since 2007 so bet it would not be easy to make run

The new 10,000 KW PTO generators take 20 PTO HP. at 515 PTO RPM.( Winco). Your tractor (stock) would be a little short of HP. You could run this generator and have some power to spare if you put a IH Fire crater kit in it.

Your frequency will be off unless running 540 RPM, should be OK at 515 RPM, which would be 57 HZ.

Still short on HP to run full load.

Old,
I love my cheap rv genny. It's easy to start when it's warm. I just changed oil 5w30. Looking at buying a used genny with electric start. That way if I can't pull start one, I'll just turn the key on the other.

I like the rv models best, only 67 db noise level.

I think 2 smaller gennies is better than one larger. It's like having 2 engines on a deep sea fishing boat.

Ever get your ref fixed?
George

The gen set I have is old. Made by Koler and even has a flat head Koler engine. The generator is also the starter on it. All in all about the size of a 8N ford engine and transmission but no wheels. Picked it up years ago for $85 and had it running shortly after I got it and then also in 2007 when we had the ice storm but not had it running since. I figure if I had a PTO generator I would be better off since then this time of year if I needed power at least one of many tractors would fire up and since I use them off and on sort of a win win thing
