Has anybody bought one of those complete bolt on turbos for
gas tractors? Im thinking about one for my 806 gas suppose to
help witg fuel consumption! What do you guys think?

not real sure, turbocharging has been discussed among the ford guys, and myself and a friend actually tried it on a 8n, back in the early 90's using a turbo off a '79 4 cylinder mustang engine, we figured 4 cylinder to 4 cylinder should work, it didnt work, the bigest problem, [ among several others including poor designe of the plumbing which we fabed up] was the tractor engine was too low of a rpm engine to spool the turbo up fast enough to provide boost, what rpm does the 806 run at? our old ford maxed out a 18oo, and thats just not enough. before it got wrecked the mustang didnt start waking up until after 2500, by 3000 it was pulling hard ,there is also info on using the air pump off of a 80's chevy 454 and making it work as a poor mans supercharger, [ the air pump is belt driven] how much boost it provides i dont know

Keystone Turbo,Shippensburg(?)PA. has bolt on turbo kits for the 6 cylinder IH gas tractors. And the old 4 cylinder ones also.

How can it help with fuel consumption? You are forcing more fuel/air mixture into the engine! The end result is more power. More power is more fuel used.

Keystone turbo kit was who i was looking at. Anybody interested google it! And check out thier website

Lots of testimonials out there. From what I've heard, they work good,at least on the 4cylinder models. As soon as I can save the money,my SuperM is getting one!

IH six cylinder engines burn valves and melt pistons very easily without turbos. Adding a turbo and all the heat and stress that come with it is sure to cause problems. My advice, save your money, sell the gasser and buy a diesel with a turbo. You will be much farther ahead.

Guys on the N board report good results using a 454 smog pump run off the fan belt. Carb has to be turned around. I think they recommend using an NAA carb. Manufacture your own bracket for the smog pump. This will, in effect, supercharge the engine just enough so that extra power will be noticeable. There's a seperate article on the internet on doing this.

RHF3 turbo from IHI . Run 5-7psi boost and 94 octane fuel. Setup with a draw through carb orientation. Find ideal timing on a dyno.
Water injection tied to a pressure switch won't hurt either.
Detonation and the resulting engine damage is often from a too lean mixture under full power.

We put a turbo on an 806 gas several years ago. Used a turbo off a 1066 made our own plumbing , pretty simple an a whole lot cheaper than new kits. Ran a holley blue pump to carb had to remove choke flap. Ran well out pulled diesels of same weight class. But your not going to get very long life out of motor with this set up. Fun to play with though.
