I deer hunted with a guy from the Lake of the Ozarks and he had some apple pie moonshine. VERY good! I only had a couple sips but it was very smooth and warming. I don't ever drink hard liquor so I don't know what it could compare too but its good stuff! Wish I could have got a gallon jar!

I think he might have fooled you. There is an Apple Pie "Moonshine" that you can buy at the liquor store. I had some of it, and its good stuff, and I to don't drink hard stuff.

Someone once offered me some butterscotch shine. It was like nothing I have ever had. I've tried to copy it to no avail.

It takes talent and time to make it right. The problem is, everyone wants to make a quick buck and that cuts into quality. There always has been, and still are, those who take pride in making "Shine" and have quite a reputation and following.
Years ago, one of my uncles had a friend who farmed, ran a sawmill, made a little "Shine" on the side, one of those hardworking people just trying to feed his family. He gave my uncle a half gallon jar of peach brandy that he had made. Absolutely delicious! Tasted like warm peach juice, but then in a few minutes, talk about a warm fuzzy feeling----!
I have always been sympathetic to moonshiners, because of the reasons why it is illegal.
With the Feds, it is not a matter of morality,it is simply a matter of legality, in that if you don't pay taxes on it, it is illegal to make it.

I had some a year ago at a show that a guy brought from the south. I told him that I was going to call the sheriff because he was just selling me cider. It was too sweet for me but was smooth without much kick. I will take CR any day.

No argument at all with your statement, you are correct. But, a talented moonshiner can add flavors to the shine too, and many offer several flavors.

I had some Apple Pie Moonshine back in September, it was good so I decided to make my own. I have made 2 batches this fall. It is very good, and if you drink a lot, watch out. It will sneak up on you!

there is Real "Moonshine " and there is store bought stuff called "apple Pie Moonshine " and homemade stuff called "apple pie " or AP shine. I make the home made stuff. Gallon of cider, 1 lb of brown sugar , cinnimon sticks , set on stove till boils ,stir to keep sugar moving . after it cools add fifth of Everclear , or some use Vodka .. It will sneak up on you !

Hi, it might have been "OLD" as Old has many talents when it involves working on the stove top. Many recipes have been distributed by Old.

The experience I had with that "nice tasting shine". Was at a dance someone gave me a fairly good size drink of their own home made shine. A short time later I actually thought I could step dance by myself in the middle of the dance floor. My wife doesn't allow me to drink that stuff anymore. Cheers

Smoothest "shine I ever tried was raisin. Smooth, easy, no effects at all, tasted fine, but then you felt like you"d been whacked in the back of the head with a 2x4.

Several decades ago, I usedta play around with it, we let apple cider
ferment, in the barrel, to become hard cider. Then we would let
the barrel freeze, to become apple jack. Then you boil the apple
jack and distill it into lightnin jack, you have to be careful to throw
out the first pint or so, that's the esters from the apple flavor. it
gives you headaches and hangover symptoms.
Lightnin jack could then be mixed with straight apple cider, to
make the drink we knew as LPR. Most here knows what that is...

ive got a jar of ol smoky moonshine sitting here, cherry flavor, i donk drink other than medicinal porposes [ shine cures lots of ills] and its good, but you have to sip it a few at a time or it will sneak up and hammer you

To make good Shine it takes someone who knows exactly what they are doing and a fire with good solid dry Hickory wood. Most made these days is short cut made and not much to taste.

i agree good moonshine takes a older guy who has done it for awhile, and cares about quality not fast "money whiskey" made fast with propayne burners and stuff like old radiators for condensors that will kill ya ,old timer told me once the most important thing about buying moonshine is knowing who makes it, and what they make it in

"Wish I could have got a gallon jar!"

That reminds me - a few years ago we butchered hogs with the neighbor, and he and his wife were over here helping cut up the meat. He mentioned that he always wanted to try to make some persimmon wine. I just happened to have eight one gallon jugs of ho-made persimmon wine aging in the cellar, so I sent one home with him. About a week later, he returned the empty jug and I sent another full one home with him. He ended up drinking all eight gallons of that persimmon wine. I personally didn't think much of the stuff, but he thought it was the greatest thing he'd ever swallowed. It was pretty - so clear you could read a newspaper thru a gallon jug.

I never tasted moonshine, but both of my wife's grandpas made it during prohibition, in fact, one was arrested for "violating the Volstead Act".

My question is, if you use gmo corn in the mash, is
Monsanto gonna claim you're in violation of of your
contract not to reproduce product with the seed????

Was told a story of a guy up on the Red river that used to make it
50 years ago. The person telling the story said they used to take a
gallon jug up there and purchase the contents.

The old man making and selling her the "shine" gave her a warning:
He said you give the maker of it the first swig out of the jug. "If he
survives, you have some fine shine". Thought that was cute.
