Getting outside today. Pics

Well weather gusessers are saying a ice snow mix for tonight. Being I've been very busy I haven't got much time to do anything at my place, so today wife took our daughter grocery shopping, that gave me some time to go out and cut up some nice dead ash I've had my eye on. The wood shed is pretty full but I wanted to get outside while it was nice out. Here's a few of my snow birds too!

Like your setup for the stove. I like heating with a wood boiler but cutting the wood is more work than I can do anymore. I had a Corn fired water boiler at the home farm. I need to change the furnace here to something else. It is currently fuel oil. I don't like the smell.

What brand is your stove???

As for the cutting wood. I like being out in the woods on a cold clear day. The air seems so fresh, crisp.

I like your snow birds. Do you have them trained to follow you around???? LOL Around here they would be coyote bail shortly. They are thick around here.

It's a thermo control stove, dad put one in his place 33 years ago when he built his house, so after I moved out I couldn't stand not having a wood stove. Iv had one for 13 years now. I think the chickens are looking for hand outs. I had 41 hens this spring now iv only got 16 some thing was getting them, fox, coy dog or something.

Nothing like a wood fired heater! I grew up with a wood cook stove and a wood heater. When we bought this place in 1977 it had no heating system, so we heated the old house with wood. It was all my younger daughter ever knew. Twelve years ago we bought a total electric "manufactured home", and every winter my daughter says, "I wish we still had wood heat!"

When we had chickens I would occasionally ask one what it was like being the standard for what it was like to "taste like chicken". They never had a good answer, the dumb clucks.

Wood heat is great. I wouldn"t try to keep the temperature in the house in the mid-70"s with the oil furnace, but with wood I cut myself I don"t mind at all. Hydraulics save the back when a big oak tree blows over...

Yep, she's the "queen" of the house! Lol, still relaxing. Sometimes I wish I was one of my cats.

Howdy All!
Jay, I've raised chickens all my life, rhode island reds, and I know that if a laying hen eats snow egg production goes to heck. Goes back to when "they" were in the wild. Anyway, Cheers!
HTH.

Theres more to heating with wood than meets the eye, especially nicer days during fall winter and spring, the work is healthy if you are able, a few tricks of the trade to help being easy on the back, or so my preference, it is good to go to the various places one gathers wood, saw logs and so on, I don't seem to mind it too much, having access to more than enough to be grateful for, the work does a person good, rewarded by a cozy place in the winter.
