Narrowing a JD 7000

Looking to see if anybody out there has narrowed up a 12 row
rigid or front fold planter to 22". I primarily plant soys and this
seems to be the way to go. I've been told it can be done but
not a lot of people talking about it on the Internet.

Thanks
Jeff

I narrowed up a 7100 to 22" rows. The 7100 is the 3 point version of the 7000. Moving the row units is easy peasy - just loosen the U-bolts and slide the row unit side to side. I narrowed the transmission down, but you can also mount a top drive and cut the gearbox completely off. To do it with a 7000, you also should expect to have to cut and weld the tube that the wheels pivot on.

You can fit 8 rows 22 in the same space as 6 rows 30.

I took a front fold 8 row wide & made it into a 17 row 15" bean planter. I had to make some box extensions to go around the tires & offset them to the rear. I also extended the drive to drive the rear boxes. It works well & has planted over 2000 acres in 5 years. best part is it cost $5,000 total for the two wide row planters that were stripped down for the parts to make the bean planter.

12 years ago I took a 7000 8 row wide and made a no-till planter very much like the Kinze double frame in these pics. Ran Shoup heavy spring kits with Yetter coulters.
Fun project for a month in the winter.
