I am looking at buying a foreclosure that's on a well if it dosent
work the county health dept says you need to go down about
200 feet might be some rock . To keep it ag related I am going
to be growing vegetables and might get a couple of hogs so I
need a well cistern only makes me nervous hauling water might
be pain and costly.

Here in Montana you would be looking at $25 to $35 per foot but we need steel casing down a minimum of 25 feet (by law) and sometimes as far as 600 feet. That is the $35 part. Open hole with plastic liner (PVC) is the lower end price. It can vary widely because I have talked to drillers from other parts of the country who can drill 1000 feet in a day. My record is about 300 in a day, normal is more like 150.

A 75 ft 6 inch drilled well in sand and gravel cost me $2600 for everything, pump, tank, all pipe, wiring, complete.

When I had a well put in 15 years ago it was $3200 to go down 125 feet, hooked up into the house.

I drilled two in the last 10 years.

The 300' one cost $6,000, for all new pump, pressure tank, plumbing, wiring, etc.

The 460' one cost $8,000 for well and all new stuff.

good luck, Gene

If you say where you are you may get some help. Here in NH the drillers go down 10-100 feet and hit ledge, then keep going through ledge until they get high enough flow. If there is little dirt over the ledge you save on casing but spend on drilling. Ours went about 330 feet for around $4000 but that was some years ago.

Guess I got off super cheap then. Back in the early 80s I had mine drilled 100 foot and cost me less then $500. The guy hit water at 15 feet and pumped my lake/spring back wards. The he went down a few feet more and hit a cave then limestone then a 2nd cave then solid rock. Had good water at 75 feet but I told him go to 100. It is cased down around 75 feet. I pump the pump etc in my self so that saved me a good bit

In 07 mine cost about $9,000 for 500' deep, freeze proof water, two hydrants, well house, pump, backhoe work etc. And another $200 for the 200 amp meter loop. Used for cattle water.

Depends how much casing is used. They only had to put in 60 feet at my house then drilled to 330 feet as I was looking for a 10 to 11 gallon flow rate. They were done in a afternoon.14 years ago cost $ 6500 all complete with a larger holding tank and larger horsepower pump.

A Big thanks for everyones advice I forget to mention I am in Ohio about 45 min north of Cincinnati but you give me hope I can dig a well most people around this house use a cistern and you have to dig below the depth of the river which is about 200 feet down. I hope I get the house wrote an offer.

We had a 4" well at 98 feet deep for $2,600 about 5 years ago .That was the well, pump, switch, bladder tank and pipe to house.

Well driller started on me last spring. 2 dry holes .the last one hit water at 16 feet ,went down to 50,which is about as deep as anybody goes in my area. He hit real fine sand & the well plugged up before he was done. A fifty foot well cased with PVC is around $1700. It takes the guy on average 3 months to drill a well. NOT REAL FAST to say the least.

Just drilled last week. Went through the first two aquifers to the third one. 415 feet @ $16.50 / ft to drill and case. Driller says I have water standing from 300 on down.

We had a 2" put down 3 years ago. The guy went 176 feet although you can hit water at less than 20. He charged $7.00 a foot for 2" and 14.00 a foot for 4". That was the wellhead, casing, drop pipe, etc... I bought the pump and other stuff and hooked it up.

Drilled one last year. 350 foot, shallow for this area, with casing, grouting, pump, pressure tank and all pipe and labor for just under $15000. This is in south east Minnesota land of 10000 laws and regulations.

Pretty much a standard around here is a 6" cased well to bedrock, and a deep hole to good water from there. I'm not sure of the current price, but ten years ago about $8 a foot was the going rate. Of course, pipe, pump, electric, tank, etc, was extra. We drilled a well here for the barn, to 400', and piped it about 1000' to the barn and further to two tank waterers at a cost of about $12K total. It was on an FSA project that I did the labor, and the cost outlay by CREP was $21K, cost shared to $18K or so. We had over 20 gallons of recovery at 400', so it's a great well...

6" casing to bedrock @ 77'. From there to 305' was solid rock except where crack occurred @ 155'. Hydrofractured and secured an excellent well. 3/4 hp 240v pump, all pipe, digging and closure plus closing old well = $14,000. I didn't touch a thing. They can drill 30' an hour in solid bedrock.

I've had two drilled over the last five years. One is 180' deep with 1/2 hp pump at 120' and new tank, cover, and hydrant. The other is 300' deep, 3/4 hp pump set at 250', 2 hydrants, and plumbed to house. Both are 6" and cased to rock. The total cost for both was close to 10k.

I"m still can"t get over the 3 months to drill a 50 foot well,..what"s up with that ????????????
