I slept in this AM but it was -6* F when I got up at 8:00. Not going deer hunting as the group broke up. Gonna stay home and stay warm here in NW Iowa.

OldPopper, We're -4 here south of Denison, I see SF set a record for the coldest high temp yesterday @ -3, where's that global warming? LOL

-20f in western Manitoba... got a bit of a breeze too, windchill is -40 this morning, and not forecast to get any better for the rest of the day.

As the sun slowly sneaks above the horizon on Saturday morning, December 7, my thermometer is showing -30F. Each day is a little colder than the last this week. The trees are not moving so maybe we won't have the -40 wind chill factors they were talking about yesterday when it was only -20F.

+2 F in east central Mo.

Here in Belgrade (just west of Bozeman) it is -15. They had forecast -23 but I think they forgot to allow for the heat leaking out of my house and warming up the outside.

Was 30 deg F even at 530 am, mild for sitting in the deer stand this morning, no wind either. It has been mild in these parts for the entire fall, with some cold fronts passing through, funny how it can go either way, seems we are always at the mercy of the jet stream. We will need some bitter cold to kill some of the bugs off, will also appreciate some mild days to get next years wood done, now sitting in 2 log piles on each side of the house.

Thermometer on my front porch reads 6 degrees but if is sort of in the sun this time of day so probably reading a tad bit higher then it really is

luiyvil ky says 19 at 7 am , up here on the knobs of s, ind overlookin ohio we were at 14 degrees ,,, sunlite is makin a wonderful day after all , mite get to above freezing with no wind ,,, hooray

hanx for the reply Bob, iffin your ever coming my way let me know, I always have the coffee pot on

18F N. of Dallas. Glaze ice all over everything. You can't stand up on the road out front. Last night some idiot thought he was going somewhere just to stop trying to climb the hill out front. Truck is still this am at 10 am. Guess he walked back home. Looks like Tue. before we can get out if the weather man is telling the truth.

Last storm like this was in 1999 and prior to that 1983. We get ice when the avg. temp falls below freezing here with an incoming wet storm, seldom just snow. 1/4" of sleet can shut the whole area big time.

Small branches, about the size of a yellow pencil are about 1" wide with their ice covering and numerous trees have real serious damage, especially the Hackberries which put out very long branches. Glad the limbs didn't fall on anything.

The two geese are hanging in there They are on the lee side of the dam to the W pool which is frozen. The E pool is larger, gets more wind and is still open. They are all bundled up and using their "goose down" to full advantage.

I was going to get more gas for the APU before the storm but figured I had enough. Next time I will be more diligent. I run it off and on to keep the frige cold and to power things like the coffee pot, today the computer, and heater for the bathroom....took a bath today. Feels great.

Got plenty of dry oak and the wood stove is doing the trick; some of the best money I ever spent. Lights been out since night B4 last when the ice storm hit and probably will be out till Mon or Tue when the ice melts off the roads.

Called one of the repair guys we know and he said lines were down all over the county. Said outside crews were coming in to help. With the glaze ice roads and caked snow/ice off road, I don't see how they get anything done.

I REALLY TAKE MY HAT OFF TO THESE POWER COMPANY LINEMEN. THEY COME OUT IN THE WORST WEATHER AND RISK THEIR LIVES SO THAT WE CAN HAVE OUR PLEASURES IN LIFE. THANKS TO YOU GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good thing is that the water is still on. About 3 power companies service this area and our FHA financed water system has 3 wells NOW, luckily all on different servers. Seems my power company is first out and last on. Back in the '83 storm we had only one and we were on the same feed. Feed went down and no nothing.

Animals are doing well. Hay is holding up, chipped ice this morning on the water trough as with power out the elect heater is inop.. Got plenty of feed. Squirrels, birds, and geese are eating away.

On the dog, I fixed her a hot supper and breakfast. She gets prem. canned with added water; dry stuff is still free choice and I keep the water drinkable. She is doing fine. Limbs on her tree are sagging but none broke. Great. Any supplement heat for her of an electrical nature would have been an exercise in futility.

I know you guys up North laugh at us down here but having it on a regular basis forces you to be prepared for it. Down here it's so seldom about the only prep is government enties have sand trucks and sand the heavily traffic areas, especially bridges and overpasses. Once you get off them you just have to wait it out.

This is a feather in the cap for the "Old Farmer's Almanac" as I bought one of their paper backs this year and they said we would have colder and wetter than normal weather. Right on. Intellicast and others might learn something from them.

Stay warm,
Mark

8 degrees here in ne NM, fixing to go watch two of my boys play in the 2a state football championship. Gonna be a cold one, expecting a high of 17.

Mark, I used to live in Robinson near Waco. I was in a wedding in north Dallas on New Years Eve mid-'70's. The ice started about 8 pm. We left the reception about midnight and it took 4 1/2 hours to get home. Only did one 360 spin going down a interchancge on to 35.We had taken the pu and had some extra weight in the back.

I'm thinking of a trip to Teslin Lake and the Nilsultin River. Did them in 84 and had a ball What do you know about them now? Email is open

Northern Saskatchewan
-37 with -44 windchill this morning
Went hunting today and we fought over who got to gut the deer and warm thier hands up.

Glad you made it. Amazing how you feel you have things under control and a split second later, before you can think about what happened you're in the ditch.

Holding our breath. Power crews have really been working to fix things up. Had a couple of flickers yesterday and about 9pm it was on for about 15 min. Then today it came on around 1:30 pm and around 2 it just bam bam bam flickering and died. The ref and freezer were going nuts so I unplugged them as fast as I could. Back on at 4:30 and holding our breath. Maybe they got her fixed this time as we are passing 1 hour on.

Guys around have been doing a super job of trimming trees but ice is a killer. I suspect that the problems with this were trees that were overloaded and finally broke. Sometimes they just cut a grove in vegetation allowing the line to pass. I'm assuming that these problems are coming from some of the taller parts adjacent to the line they didn't cut.

The geese stuck it out till this afternoon and left. Surprised they hung around for this long. They are supposed to be down on the coast with their buddies even though they are domestic.

Dingo is doing well. On double premium rations and she loves it. Had to break ice for the cows in their water trough as no power to the heater. Can't use the pool as it is 6' low and they would get stuck up to their bellies.

Mark

Got down to +23*F for second night. Warms up to low 50s. Can still work outside in a long sleeve shirt. Don't know how you guys handle such cold. Hats off to all of you that have to get out and work in it.
I spent a few winters in Montana and Alaska. That was enough for me. I'll stay in SE AZ.
