SMALL North Dakota Cities

I see Loraine and Perth each have a population of 9. Bergin and Grano are 7 each, and Ruso has 4. Do any of you live near these cities....Are you one of the 36 people?

I would be very interested in knowing more about these, and other cities whose population is less than 10.

Thanks,
Glenn F.

I'm about 4 miles N of Bergin, about 27 road miles from Ruso. The others are farther away from me. Not much to see when driving by either Bergin or Ruso.

When I vas driving the truck, North Dakota vas one of my favorite places to travel through.
In my lifetime I have seen little communities dry up and blow away.It saddens me sumvhat, cause I vas raised up near a little village that 60 years ago had a population of aboot 100 folks, back then thar vas 2 grocery stores, a Farm Bureau feed mill, 2 hattcherys, 2 churches, a bank,a fixit shope, doctors office, post office, telephone switchboard, community center, now all is gone.

Not much to see? What about all that open landscape? For me, it would sure beat bumper to bumper idiots around here.

I grew up not far from Perth, but closer to Fonda, with a population at that time (60's) of maybe a dozen at most, and even closer to Nanson with a population of between 1 and 4, depending on the year. Neither Fonda nor Nanson now exist as towns.

Grew up between Braham Mn. (722) and Grasston Mn.(11) and lived near Grasston til last fall. Sorry it's just 1 over.

There are a few of those little towns in west Texas. One had a dispute on the count. It was either 28 or 32, depending on whether they counted who all was in the outhouses at the edge of town at the time of the census. It's a complicated story.

Down close El Paso there is a county that for years had an official population of 32, and 96 registered voters...

I was born in Bismark! Dad was a preacher at a rural church near Arena. Saw it listed as a ghost town now! Heard how the farmers bought out the elevator and the RR spur, and I think they even bought their own locomotive so they could get their grain to market!

Bremen North Dakota. I don't think it's incorporated but there are a few houses there. My step-mother grew up on a farm a couple of miles south of Bremen. Jim

I grew up in the Rocklake area, not that far from Perth. When in high school I worked for a farmer who hauled his grain to Perth. Made many trips from farm to Perth with a 1954 Chevrolet truck. 2002 North Dakota official map shows Rocklake at 194. When I lived nearby it was 385.

I"ve recently heard that the entire Towner County (where Perth and Rocklake are) has population of 1800.

Big Fred, I see Fonda still shows up on the ND map in 2013 issue of Rand McNally road atlas. Maza does too and I know for sure it doesn"t exist anymore either.

1206, I looked up Bremen in the book you posted the link to and it showed a pic of the abandoned shell of the bank in that town. That's the bank my stepmom's dad and granddad did business with. She's 90 so she would remember that bank in it's glory days. Jim

There are about 5 houses a church, a bar, and an elevator in
Bremen still. I lived in the area a few years ago.

Hey! My farm is 4 or 5 miles SE of Perth. There's a few folks left there. You want to talk about ABANDONED, let's talk about Arndt... a few miles to the SE of me... Simply put, Arndt AIN'T! Just like Bement, about 1/2 mile east of my farm. NOBODY has lived there for the better part of a hundred year.

5 more very small or "gone" towns in Towner County, ND.
Crocus, Elsberry, Pasha, Brumbaugh, Armourdale, Hansboro

My grand father homesteaded 1/2 mile south of Crocus in 1901.

Clairemont Tx had 200 or so until the water wells collapsed and the rattlesnakes took over. Now just 2 people.
