Power door locks?????

Today the power door locks quit working on my '05 Dodge Grand Caravan.

The buttons on both front doors are dead, and when you hit the lock button on the remote, the horn chirps but the locks don't move.

I checked the fuses, all OK. Possibly a relay? The lid from the fuse box has a fuse chart molded into it, but it doesn't identify any particular fuse or relay with the door locks.

Any ideas, anyone? Thanks in advance.

Got the owner's manual? There MAY be another fuse block hiding somewhere. Lots of vehicles have one under the hood and one inside somewhere.

Went all through the owner's manual, and couldn't find anything that pertained.

I'll still double check for another fuse block. The only one the owner's manual mentions is under the hood, beside the battery. On an Olds 88 once, I went nuts trying to figure out why the horn didn't work. (After a deer hit). Finally found a fuse for the horn on another little fuse block inside the kick panel in front of the passenger door.

The computer senses a overload and disables the door locks. A scan tool will tell which side had the high draw. Then you replace both locks or try one . I unhook the sliding door and see if it will work. You need to reset the computer by unhooking battery and see if your locks will reset.

The problem seems to be common with 05 Dodge Caravan. There is supposed to be a fix available at the dealers for this specific problem. Also, some have disconnected the battery for 5 minutes to reset the computer and solved the problem. Google 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan door locks not working and you'll find a lot of info. Problem solved!

Checked on the 'Net and found this is a problem common specifically to '05 Dodge Caravans. The most common fix is to pull the IOD 20 amp fuse, wait ten seconds, and replace it. It's the fuse clear to the left front in the fuse box.

I tried it and it worked!

Thanks for the responses.

How about this, our '08 caravan puts the two front windows down by itself when going down the road sometimes. You can put them back up at least. I know, wife is very happy.

Reminds me of a funny incident a year ago. We bought a new Dodge van, second new car in 41 years. Old one was an "03, so many controls were different. Better half opened a window to get the mail, couldn"t get it shut. After playing with all the buttons, all the windows were down and it was very cold out (AND IN). I played with the buttons on my side, no luck, checked the op manual, nothing there. Buttons looked like rocker switches, but didn"t work that way. I told her you"re gonna get REALLY cold driving 9 miles to the dealer to find out how they work! Finally I discovered you need to LIFT the front of the switch to close the window!

I"m still bummed about the cruise on the new one- itty bitty little buttons on right side of wheel....I have to take my eyes off the road to operate them. 03 van was like our 04 Dodge tk- big buttons, left side of wheel, don"t need to look to operate. "spose some engineer got promoted on his great idea on the "13?

That's a grounding problem somewhere. I don't recall exactly where it was, but my mother in laws did the exact same thing. Dealer replaced several harnesses and it kept doing it. Finally had the big tech from Dodge come down and he found and fixed the problem in a couple of hours.

When I was a GM salesman, I sold a new vehicle of some sort. Next day the guy called, all in a lather.

He said all he did was touch the button for the driver's window and the window dropped all the way down. I had to explain to him that it was supposed to do that, that it was a "Auto Down" feature on the window. (I filed that in my memory bank of things to explain to buyers).

GM Customer Service people told us that statistically, of all the calls they got about new vehicles, 62% could have been answered by the owner reading the owner's manual.

My answer was going to be the problem is you own a Dodge - but I see you found that out for yourself.

My boss just bought a top of the line new Jeep Grand Cherokee - about the only option he didn't get was the diesel. Every now and then the whole eletronic dash goes blank along with the "data center" (fancy radio) while he's driving down the road. If he pulls over and turns it on and off it comes back on. Until he does that he has no idea how fast he's going, gas or anything else - but the car keeps running like normal. Been back to the Dodge dealer 6-7 times and had the entire dash replaced once - still has the same problem. Nice issue to have on a $47,000 vehicle.
