OT for the hydraulic engineering people

Will a hydraulic motor work as a hydraulic pump.

Can I take a hydraulic motor off of a golf course
greens mower and put a pulley on it and run it off
my wheel horse tractor to lift & turn a snow plow?
I believe the motor spins about 2800 rpm by design.

My first thought is I do not know.
But, almost all hydraulic pumps have the inlet a larger diameter than the outlet. Hydraulic motors have the port sizes the same. Hydraulic motors are usually low speed high torque, pumps are 1200 or 1800 RPMs and they generate pressure, hydraulic motors need pressure to work.
Is it a gear motor, gerotor type, vane type or piston type.
Do a search on web to see if this has been done before.

When I worked for Dana we had a unit that could be either a pump or a motor. You need to furnish more details on what you have and what you want to do.

For one thing, if you pressurize it backwards you will blow the seal out. (As there's typically an internal passage between the suction side of a pimp and the shaft seal area.)

Some types of motors have a "case drain" just to keep any backpressure off of the seal.

A reel motor, maybe. Some motors work as pump when reversed. The drive wheel motor, probably not. If you know what brand of motor, you might even be able to look it up on the internet.
