snake problem

Just got home tonight after spending a few days with the in-laws. My wife started to wash some clothes and as I was walking toward the washing machine I heard the sound of running water. The hose in the drain was puking water out. I stooped the machine and after some colorful moments I pushed my electrical fish tape down the drain and pulled up a 18" garter snake. The "grey water" just dumps out on the ground from a 3" pipe. Is there a way to help prevent this? I was thinking of maybe a 1/4" mesh but I am worried about some lint plugging it and flooding the house again. Does anyone have any better ideas?

Rubber flap valve or a piece of bike inner tube 5 inches long. (It must not be freezing where you are, 15* here in central MN) Jim

Don't run it into your septic unless you have an over enthusiastic gooberment inspector or if you are close to your property line. I buried a plastic barrel and ran the drain to it. The barrel had several 1/4" holes drilled in it and was the hole was filled in with course river gravel.

All of my GRAY Water goes into an underground cistern that has a submersible pump with a float-switch on it. When the cistern gets full, the pump comes on and waters my trees. All BLACK Water goes directly into the Septic Tank.

Well that"s the surprising thing, It has been freezing here for a few weeks. I do believe it was supposed to get up to 50 degrees on Friday while we were gone and that was hopefully when he got in there. I should have mentioned that the freezing shut of a flap worries me also since I"m in Northeast NE and it gets below 0 for a week or more most winters. maybe the inner tube idea would let it flex enough to break the ice break loose.

A good gravel wash should cure your ills. A reasonable sized gravel bed will help disperse your grey water. We don't use bleach though, so you might keep that in mind.
