Dry fertilizer attachment augers - older Kinze/Allis Chalmer

I had posted this question on the implement forum with no reply, so I will try here since there is much more activity. I have a Kinze 2000 planter which has the dry fertilizer attachment. The hoppers look pretty much like John Deere 7000 units or Allis Chalmers units. John Deere planters used a solid casting with screw like threads on it for the metering augers. Early Kinze and Allis Chalmers planters used a 1/4 inch square rod twisted like a cork screw. In the center of the cork screw was a 1/2 inch square shaft with a casting on each end and one in the middle which the 1/4 square rod "cork screw" attached to. I would like to find several of these older type screws/metering augers. Might be interested in some of the castings - middle and ends. Might be some new old stock sitting out there. Kinze does not stock this type anymore .. they went to a solid casting with thread cast on to it - similar to John Deere. Old style is just fine. Might consider the new style. This is an 8 row planter with 4 hoppers. Thank you.

I've got some out here that I bought at an auction. There are different thicknesses of the square rod. I assume it's for different amounts of application even though you can change gears since these one I have are different thicknesses. I don't want to sell mine because I have an AC planter, but have you tried an Agco dealer? I'd try one that was AC since the dealer I generally use was an Oliver/White dealer and she really prefers that I get parts for that one from a nearby former AC dealer.

The new style works well and last longer. The depth of the thread is for different rate augers. JD used low rate, medium rate, and high rate augers. The high rate had the deepest thread/screw.

You do not want those. If your planter sets a few days or if you get a bad batch of fertlizer thosr springs will distort and bunch up and make a hole in your fiberglass fertlizer hopper.I have seen alot of AC planters with patched boxes because of this.If you are a great operater who never lets fertlizer set in boxes and always make sure to turn fertlizer drive with a wrench before using you will be ok. It was an ok idea back in the day but I would go with the Deere style augers, you can get them from Shoup Manufacturing at a reasonable price.

Guys, I actually had good luck with the first kind that looked like cork screws. After several years a few of them just need to be renewed. Yes, I clean out the tanks and keep the augers free from rusting solid.
