Granted I am using antiquated equipment but I believe John Deere has lost their mind. I am using a Model B grain drill to plant some wheat. I noticed a cople of my "funnel" (drop hose attatches ro it, it attaches to seed meter) had rusted out. I called the local dealer, got a part number JJ 1249M and a price of $65 each. I said to myself no way! I Went home looked it up myself, got a part number BB3150M. Are you ready for the price? $48 each.

Does anyone have a better source for them? I believe I can make them cheaper than $50 each.

Thank You

Yep, JD gouged me $162 dollars for this wear block for my 346 square baler. At least it's made in USA!

Don't totally blame all the high parts price on JD. Your local dealer must have added a lot of $$$$$$$$ to MSRP.
FH311771 Guide ADD 74.25 USD

I own several different colored pieces(brands) of farm equipment and IMHO ALL PARTS ARE HIGH

Your JD dealer is adding 12% to MSRP to BB3150M which subs to the following numbers
Prices from my local JD dealer
BB3592M Tube View/Update 43.06 USD
11H243 Cotter Pin View/Update 0.41 USD
*Total 43.47 USD

JJ1249M Tube ADD 58.02 USD

I don't know if it would have worked on your Gator but that's what they wanted for the fuel pump for my Deer garden tractor. I found an after market pump for $20 that been working for a few years now.

Go price parts for other brands of equipment. ALL parts are high. Since Fiat took over CIH and New Holland some of their parts have increased five fold and they have availability problems that Deere does not seem to have. Just priced a new diskbine, New Holland verses Deere. Comparable machines and the Deere was 5K LESS!! I did some research on common wear parts for the machines. Deere actually had lower prices on 85% of similar parts.

I priced that block thru my dealers parts website, $74.25! You got screwed bad! Put the part number in google and there are a couple dealers that sell parts online and they want $74.25 for that block and one has free shipping! Take it back and order the one online. I always Google part numbers on parts I don't need right away. You would be surprised how much you can save sometimes.

Not all John Deere parts are high price. I can go to John Deere for oil filters and they are cheeper than off brand filters.
I just installed new batteries in my John Deere 3010D. The batteries were a little higher but the last ones lasted more then 10 years.
Go and check out Cats prices then you will think JD is cheep.

That little plastic dash fuse holder for a JD 1010 is 130 bucks from john deere,or 2 bucks at a flea market.

I would agree that Deere is better on parts prices versus CNH or AGCO. If your the kind of farmer that seldom needs to visit the parts counter and have not bought more than filters, tillage replacement hardware, etc. you have not seen so readily the price increase that has come in the last 3 to 5 years.

I agree, I worked for a outdoor power equipment dealer, when
I looked up parts I'd see there cost vs the retail price to be
charged to the customer, what a mark up on the parts. I think
it's a little outta hand though.

When Fiat gets it's hands into anything the prices have always gone through the roof. Years ago I had a customer with an FL10 C Fiat/Allis loader. It had a hydraulic suction line that was less than a foot long that got a hole in it. The piece was metric so no one around here had anything and the piece had to come from F/A direct. By the time freight was added, that little rubber hose wound up costing nearly $150, or right at $15 per inch.

According to JDParts.deere.com, my dealer is charging list price. Looks like you guys that have a dealer that is tacking a bunch on to list price should find another dealer.

If you don't like Deere's prices on old grain drill or baler parts, go ahead and buy an Allis Chalmers or JI Case and let me know how much better off you are.

I went corn planter shopping and decided on a Kinze. Big sale in August. Price looked right. Pay up front. You mean I pay you for the corn planter now and you deliver it when? "Sometime around April, you know, spring delivery". Says me: "I see, I'll let you know". Stopped at the John Deere dealer on the way home and asked about corn planters. "Boy, are you in luck. We have a planter sale going on". I thought, "Here we go again". I show them the one I want in the book-same as Kinze as far as I can tell- and they shot back with the price. About $4000 less than Kinze. $1000 down and pay for the rest when it comes in. SOLD. Got the planter the following Feb and couldn't be happier. Parts? They have them except once. It was 4:30 in the afternoon and I had the part @ 9:00 the next morning. I've become a John Deere fan. They're there when you need them. At 10:30 one Sunday night in Oct we needed a straw walker for a JD 9500 combine. Called them and someone answered right away. They offered either new or used. Had a truck and 2 service guys out @ 8:00 the next morning and we were combining again at noon which was when we would have started anyway due to moisture. As long as they keep that up, I'll not be complaining.

Regarding Cat parts- my old neighbor, in the construction business with many Cat machines, once told me, "If I ever walk out of Cat with more than $500 worth of parts and I can't put 'em in my front pocket, I'm gonna be so thrilled I'll put a C note in your mailbox."

One good reason we like our Massey Fergusons over here in the British Isles.....there are so many other firms making parts to fit them we don't have to go to our Agco dealer very often!

I use this site all the time for JD parts

Yes that's true, but alot of times I get a part online than I see its made in china or such, I'm not saying that's the case with the block. But I do order online when I can.

Seems like you could take one of your parts and wrap a piece of construction paper around it and trace it. Then use that for a pattern to cut some out of sheet metal, and maybe rivet the seam? My dad was very handy at doing things like that and often his homemade parts were just as good or better than original.

JD construction parts are every bit and sometimes even more expensive than Cat parts. Cat has a huge advantage when it comes to parts for older machines. JD has discontinued a lot of parts from the 80's.

It's not just dealer mark up boys. Between 1990 and today the dollar has lost about 80% of it's value. It's lost 10% in the last 2 years. What did you thin QE1, 2, etc were? Deliberate devaluation of the dollar. Doesn't make a huge difference with the US on domestically produced goods, but once you leave our shores it makes an enormous difference. That's a big reason why parts are up and lumber is up and bolts and nuts are up and tires are up, etc. I don''t want this to go POOF so I'll let you look into who's responsible.

The "dealer mark-up" thing is what annoys me about foreign made things. These corps go to 3rd world countries or China and have parts made for pennies in the factories, many of which used to be in the USA, and charge you the same price stuffing the profits in their pockets. Don't look for it to go away any time soon.

You can google certain things and find mfgrs. in places like India advertising what they charge for this and that. Also they welcome new business and invite you to discuss your requirements with them. That's how I know what's going on and that it won't change any time, much less anytime soon.

The way I see it, every dealer screws every innocent customer and they always have, its how they survive. There are lots of BTO's around here that get better deals on stuff just because of who they are. They may farm 10,000 acres, but don't own even 80 for themselves. The guy who has worked his whole life and has a section or so free and clear won't get the same treatment. I once worked for a dealer who would give his buddies better deals than us guys back in the shop who were making him money! A good friend of mine has a saying about high dealer pricing, "Its because they have it and you don't". BT

I have a couple of local dealers I trust and use, but I also order online quite a bit. Deal shopping vs. how fast I need the part, usually.

On the 1770 planters there is a big chunk of steel on the main frame that's got a bunch of hydraulic valves in it. If one of the pressure relief valves goes bad, your lift will do all sorts of funny things, like left wing goes up, left end main frame down, right side main frame up, right wing down.

It took 2 hours to diagnose it, then 3 hours to do 40 minutes of driving and steal one out of a new planter that was on the lot. That particular piece gets used in several applications and they didn't have one on the shelf.

And they sure are proud of their chinese castings. "MADE IN CHINA" cast right into them in big letters.

If the local Case dealer had more service capability and a couple of the parts were as heavy as on the JD we'd have a Case planter.
