Turned out it was the battery. Tookit to TSC for checking and only had about 40% of cranking amps. They replaced battery. Thanks for the help. Now I can get back to working on projects.

I've got one that's giving me fits. Actually a diesel with two batteries. I'm afraid they're on their way out. Never had any hang on this long though. Been acting up for two months. Generally a few days of monkeying around and they're toast. All last week when it was so cold they worked the manifold heater and started it. The week before,not so much. This week,I can run it for five minutes and it'll start OK pretty much the rest of the day,but Wednesday I had the charger on it all afternoon set at 2 amps and it barely started. After about two minutes,I shut it off and it started right back up. The gauge says it's charging,it's not discharging with the key off. Has to be the batteries giving out.
 
A 2 amp charger cant charge a low battery in an after noon.It would take a 2 amp charger 40 hours to bring up an 80 amp hour battery.Check the batteries with a hydrometer after charging.I had a 6v battery that tested !/2 charge on the center cell while the end cells tested full charge.This battery did not crank the engine well.
 
I've charged them at 6 amps too. The time it worked best was when I ran it at 2 amps all day about a month ago.
 
a battery takes on a surface charge in a very short time.Friend bought a new inverter type charger.It shut off when a certain voltage was reached.He said it didnt charge his tractor battery.I put it on my saw mill battery.I knew the battery was old and it showed 1/2 charge with a hydometer test.The charger shut off in 2 hours.Hydrometer test showed 3/4 charge.My old 6A charger took 2 more hours to get the battery to full charge.Batteries tend to give off hydrogen sulfide gas over 6 amps.This is why you see corroded cable ends and battery trays.Many Ford 600 series have their serial numbers eaten away by battery acid.Fast chargers are hard on batteries.
