putting it all back together

hello fellas .. great discussion page here. I have my first tractor i believe it is a Massey Ferguson 205 the serial # is 659100172 and the plate says mf 205. it has a broken hydraulic lift cover so i removed it to replace or repair.(can you braze or weld these things?) and the lift cylinder fell off into the fluid. dang i should have drained it first. my question is where do the forks from the lift cylinder fit on the draft lever? Does one go on each side of the roller? my second question is where do the push arms from the hydraulic cylinder go. they extend toward the back. One has a wide spaced fork and the other narrow. and how do you position them after the lift cover is bock in place. I hope all this makes cents. i have looked on line and read the entire forum for pictures and advice but couldn't find anything. while i have everything apart is there anything thing else i need to do in there? thanks in advance for your help. pictures would be good in reply Dave

Might be time to get a repair manual. Google tractor manuals- there are several sources.

Is this a newer, "compact utility" tractor? Model number doesn't ring a bell on the older ones.

205 'work bull'industrial tractor. As was said.it is time for a service manual, and an owners/operators manual. These guys right here on YT have em.

You did it all wrong. First you get and read the repair manual for the tractor before you take it apart. Some of those lift covers are a bit tricky to remove and replace. Now you don't know what may have dropped into the rear housing and as you have discovered you will need to drain all fluids to inspect the base.
No I would not try to weld or braze the cover. There were a lot of those old work bulls around and I am sure you can buy one from a tractor salvage company.
Many of us here on this site have made a few mistakes when trying to repair our prize tractors and other mechanical toys without first checking how it should be done. Now we are more experienced but not always smarter. LOL

I've been a devotee of repair manuals ever since I unscrewed a perfectly innocent looking bolt on the side of the transmission housing of an old tractor, and suddenly the bolt and the spring and check ball behind it zinged across the shop. Finally found all the pieces, but vowed Never Again.

thanks for your reply. i started the repair before my books got here. as you say. I guess i am a 63 year old newbie at this stuff. i have found that there isn't much i can't fix when i put my mind at it. once i got the fluid out it had quite a bit of water in it i found that i didn't loose any thing else just dropped a couple of nuts in the drain pan. you got any recommendations on what to flush the compartment with? Once the books get here they are sure to help i was just hopping that you'all could help me determine if i did any thing wrong since i figure i will have it fixed long before the manuals arrive. if i got the answers to my questions i could save on a secondary shipping charges if i do need any thing other then the cover. and save on getting a bunch of stuff i don't need. this go round.

I flush with fuel. I put a good sized container underneath and pour the fuel in all around the top in order to try to hit all of the bottom.
