630 John Deere Tractor Value

Found a 630. Been overhauled with new pistons, sleeves, rings, etc. New tires. Better than average tin. Not been started since work has been done. No 3 point and no weights. Don't know if it has power steering or not and if it has power steering, don't know if it works or not. How much is this one worth??

Harvey 2-- I already had that figure in mind. Just curious, didn't mean to fire you up. If I did something wrong, I apologize.

Don't know enough, about the tractor, to give much help on the price but if it is not running you are taking a big chance. You stated that the engine had been worked on but who did the work? A tractor repair shop with all receipts or by someone under a shade tree? Without the tractor running you can not check the other parts of the tractor such as the clutch, brakes or steering.
How are the tires?
A 630 JD parts tractor is worth between $1200 and $2,000. A good running JD 630 could be worth 4 to 7 thousand dollars. LOL

If it has not been started, the engine work is without merit. Why would a person rebuild then not start an engine and break it in. It is just not reasonable. If there is a reason (as in the person dies) OK it still needs to run. If you purchase it and it does run well and has good rubber. it might be a $4000 to 5000.00 tractor. If it does not run before purchase, 1/2 of that is reasonable (for a starting place) as it is a serious gamble. Jim

I can't help much either Bob, but price would also vary depending
on whether it was a standard or rowcrop (orchard and high crop too),
narrow or wide front, gas diesel or propane, etc.
Around here folks are asking $4 - $7K for nicely painted ones,
but I don't see them selling very quickly at the high end.

You didn't fire me up or do any thing to appoligize for.
The answer I gave is because its worth different prices to different people in different places.
There is no blue book value as in the auto world.
Most collector tractors are selling for more than they are worth, unless its a pile of junk.
If a person would ask what are they selling for? That would be a different question.
The last 60 JD that I owned, I paid $500.00 for it and it ran good and had three point hitch. Of course that was aboot 30 years ago.

Harvey, I myself would ask what is it worth, rather than what are they selling for, because just as you say there is no blue book, neither is there a place that I have ever heard of that keeps a running record of all tractor sales. All that we may know of is an auction sale here and there, and they all depend on who shows up. One good resource is available however. This forum which is read frequently by many hundreds who have access to sales information as well as different details that affect the value of a given tractor that the original poster probably doesn't know about. It is always good practice for anyone considering a purchase to seek information from those more knowledgeable, just as it is good manners if one is going to answer, to give a meaningful answer, as opposed to an answer that the asker obviously already knows.
