Has anyone else gotten these?

Several time in the last couple of weeks, I've gotten phone calls that Caller ID places close enough to be legit. The last one was Pilger, NE.

The caller then says she needs info to update the VA loan on my house. I don't have a VA loan on my house, and the conversation has never gone beyond me advising them that I don't have a VA loan and hanging up.

But is this a new kind of scam going around? If it happens again, I'm tempted to converse long enough to find out what they're getting at, without giving out any personal info.

I suspect they figure if they fish phone numbers long enough, they'll hit on someone who WILL have a VA loan and spill some beans.

I received an offer in the mail today to have me cremated - and I ain't even dead yet!

Do you suppose they know something that I don't?

All they're looking for is someone gullible enough to start giving them all their personal information. Then they can clean them out while they are waiting for the "confirmation to be mailed."

I did have a neighbor call my parents' house when I had been there with them for a couple of hours and the neighbor had my parent's phone number come up on their caller ID but it was a telemarketer/scammer that made the call.

The neighbor just was curious as to why the number was wrong and was not aware that if you have the right program you can make a call and have someone else's number show on the caller ID.

Two old guys had been friends for many years, and their common interest was baseball. They were both in their 90's and knew their time was short, so they made a pact- whoever went first would figure out a way to communicate back about whether there was baseball in heaven.

One of them died, but true to his word, he communicated back to his friend in a dream and said, "Yes, there is baseball in heaven. The bad news is, you're pitching Thursday."

Out of self defense, we have given up on answering the phone. Machine gets it after two rings. Occasionally we get a recorded message saying we need to get right back to them to get our credit card interest/payment/credit rating/whatever fixed! No one gets any interest from me, as I don't owe anyone!

Near your phone, keep the information of someone you don't really like. Their name, number and address.

I like sharing these wonderful deals with others.

Hey Goose, get an address and I'll run over there and thump somebody upside the head, just live a few miles from Pilger. LMAO chirs

I got a call a couple of weeks ago from "Microsoft Support Center". Guy had a thick African accent and I"m quite sure Microsoft wouldn"t call me out of the blue; conversation didn"t last very long.

(quoted from post at 20:29:22 11/18/13) I got a call a couple of weeks ago from "Microsoft Support Center". Guy had a thick African accent and I"m quite sure Microsoft wouldn"t call me out of the blue; conversation didn"t last very long.
Had the same call a few weeks ago from a fellow with a strong accent that claimed he could fix my windows.
Had the poor sap on the phone for over five minutes.
I told him yes I have been having trouble with bugs and that I did need my windows fixed as the screen was ripped and the dang flies keep getting inside.
He kept on trying to explain that thats not the kind of windows they fix, I kept on saying my windows are no different than any others and that if they are in the business they should know what to do.
Every time he told me he needed my personal information I just reminded him that if he knew to call me to fix my problems then he must know who he has called.
We played ring around the rosie back and forth for a few more minutes until he finally told me that he couldn't help me today, so I then asked him why he called me then, at that point he hung up on me.
If nothing else I used up five minutes of his time that could have been spent trying to scam somebody else.
Once the cows are fed I seem to have too much spare time on my hands, might be time for another hobby.

My phone has "distinctive ring", I believe it is called. The ring tone is different for an out of area call than it is for local calls. If my phone rings funny and the caller ID says "unavailable" or some number I don't recognize, I simply don't answer it. You"d be surprised how persistent some of these calls are. The same number will show up for days or weeks at a time. Eventually they figure out that "no one"s home" ha ha ha. I guess they can always write me a letter.

i tell them to call the bank that owns the house,, click,, ha ha jokes on them,,, i also tell sales people the same thing that want to sell me somthing for my house, remodel, siding, etc,, they say, thank you for your time, click,,, work every time...

Have gotten a similar call = kind of came to pieces when I asked him which version of Windows...He gave me aversion I don't use - told him I'd notify my computer engineer - hung up.

I constantly get calls from someone telling me they can lower the rates on my credit card. Most of the time I don't answer, but once in a while I'm feeling devilish enough to rattle their cage a little. "Are you answering to the lower your interest rates?" "Yes, Mam'". Do you owe over $4,000.00 on your card?" "No, Mam'" CLICK! They hang up. OR, (the usual question,) "Mam', who do you represent?" They rattle off something that half the time you cant understand. "Where is your company located, Mam'? Answer, somewhere in Florida. "Mam',does your company have an address?" Click! The kicker is when I tell them that if they did their homework, they would know that I don't even have a credit card! CLICK!!!!! I would love to have a few minutes in private with some of those B@$##$ds!

Our late Aunt Susue had the best techniique, she'd launch off into a long spiel "Oh I'm SOOO glad you called, I've been just waiting to tell somebody about the cats, they just got up on the table, and moved the table lamp around, I was SOOO afraid, after Fluffy last time you know .... ....." and off she'd go, without a stop, til they hung up.

My solution, I have a cheap plastic police whistle and I blow it just as loud and as hard as I can. After that they usually don't call back. LOL

If I know for sure it's a crank call, I sometimes answer the phone in Japanese and continue to talk in Japanese. It drives them nuts.

But I answered this one 'cause Caller ID showed Pilger, and I could actually have a legit business call from Pilger.

I forgot there is a telemarketing place in Stanton that could be generating a Pilger number, 10 miles between towns. Still could stop though,ha ha. chris

I got on some list as a high roller investor somehow.

Been getting calls for a year now, invest in condos, casinos, oil, etc. they keep promising 25% return on a totally safe investment.....

Sheez.

I used to get them talking about there product the put the phone over by the TV let them talk all they wanted. One guy must have been real dumb he stayed on he that phone near a half hour telling TV all about what he had to sell.

As far as a local number showing up,our local phone company said these people can generate any number they want(area code-even maybe your own number)the call can be coming from any where in the world.

I just wish I had dropped my land line years ago!! The inconvenience of not having a land line is far better then paying a monthly bill to get ten legit calls and forty or fifty scam calls!
Sad thing is---phone company could stop them but they make $$$$$$ from these calls!!
Just the world we live in today.

May change but in the year since I dropped my LL, I have received a total of THREE scam calls and I reported them to DNCall.

I have got that many in one day, been told DNC list(by DNC people) doesn't apply to them because they are not calling you,but a number because 99% of them are recorded calls(not a live person).Seems like they pick a cell prefex and call it all at one time.AT&T now,Sprint next week,Verizon another week,ETC-ETC.
