what are the does & do nots with running a chain saw or being close to a running engine when you have a pacemaker? kind of scared to drive to the coffee shop any more. thanks for any replys.

Ask you surgeon then go to the website of the pacemakers manufacturer and check there. They will have good info on their product.

I'll second that. They say you can't weld with one either but that is not exactly true. depends on manufacture and model type.

The issue is how well it is shielded against Electro-Magnetic fields.

I've had a pacemaker for about 9 years, I haven't changed my life style any. I weld, run a chain saw, use the microwave oven etc just like I always did. Don't worry about it , just live your life the way you always did. It just another tool to make your life better, go with it.

I have been wearing a pacemaker since 1998. it was replaced in 2010. When I first got mine I was also concerned as you however I really don't think of it much anymore. I run a weed eater, chainsaw, have been shocked by 110 current, spark plug wires etc. The new generation pacemakers are near bullet proof. I do not weld and you need to stay away from strong magnets.

I weld and run a chainsaw with mine. got my first one in 2007 and just had it replaced because of dead battery. I have a defib/pacemaker and battery was dead all summer. I definitely know it helps, as I complained all summer about not feeling right. when they called me in to check it; I thought the technician was going to have a cow. it died on may 2 and they found it on august 25th.

I have one, and also an LVAD which is an electric pump that was implanted in me that keeps my blood at continuous flow, and alive until I get a new one.

Surgeons told me that they would not recommend it, but they know people do it. They said "IF" I was to do it where an extra layer of shielding.

So, I don't have a chainsaw, but I do work on my trucks, and tractors. I use my weed wacker. I do some welding, but when I do weld I have the extra thick welding leather coat/apron on. If possible I will get everything all tacked in place, and will have my brother or buddy finish it. Man, can't wait for that heart transplant!!!

This is just what I do... This is a coat similar to what I use
