I hadto take I55 south from chicago to St. Louis today, was a bit windy with 50-70 mph side winds. Here is a pic of how much steering it takes to counter that much wind. lol

Had a heavy load so it would have to get worse for me, but light or empty trailers would tip in this wind. Cut my milage from near 8 mpg usually to 6.1 today tho. A head wind would be better.

Severe thunderstorm watch for
Southern Bruce County continued

Severe thunderstorms are possible this afternoon and early evening. These thunderstorms are likely to form in Michigan and move eastwards in advance of a sharp cold front. Although winds in excess of 100 km/h are the primary threat, there also is a risk for tornadoes and large hail.

This is an alert to the potential development of severe thunderstorms with large hail, damaging winds or heavy rainfall..Monitor weather conditions and listen for updated bulletins.

A low pressure system from Colorado continues to track towards the Great Lakes and will rapidly intensify into a significant fall storm as it approaches Lake Superior later today. The associated cold front is forecast to reach Southwestern Ontario by early this evening then blast east across the remainder of the regions tonight.

I55 is a windy son-of-a-gun. It's no better in Arkansas. It can be unbearable with a van trailer behind a pickup.

Washington, IL got hit bad right after noon. Have family that live in Roanoke, no electricity but okay. They were in church near Washington and all went into the rest rooms. From the pictures on the net, there are going be some that did not make it. A few years back, Parson Mfg just east of Washington got wiped out. Worker were in a shelter and were okay. There are trunk lines from the south that go to Chicago very close and a lot of wind mills. Tornado warning were for Piatt and Champaign counties at 12:30. We went to Clinton then. The rain had stopped and by the time we has gotten there the sun was shining and the wind was out of the SSW. By the time we finished lunch, the wind was out of the west and rattling the windows at DQ and black in the west. Must have been the time it was doing its damage. In 1968, Wapella got hit very bad and lost several settings of the trunk lines plus 12-16 inches of rain. It started in Lincoln and went past Farmer City, 40 miles.

I would be just as afraid of driving in wind like that with a trailer, as i would knowing that someone else is driving with one hand so he can take a picture of someone doing it.... :)

Stay safe out there....

Glad your family is ok Frank. Judging by the pictures I've seen Washington got hit really hard. I read early on where they were calling for life flight helicopters to transport some of the injured to Peoria. I also read that someone in Seneca found a checkbook from Washington in some debris. Seneca is 80 miles from where the tornado hit!

Frank- Where do you live? I'm between Mansfield and Mahomet. A good friend in Washinton lost his house today. Watched out the front door as the tornado came right at him. Took the family to the basement, and everybody is fine. It's a real mess over there.

You sure wouldn't want to turn around and head back up here to Michigan. The road would be at the bottom in that picture.

Good thing about the wind, it blew all my leafs in to the neighbors field. I have a very clean yard now. No leafs left on trees. Only a few leafs in flower beds.

I live east of St. Louis and with the wind shaking the pecan trees, I pick up about 25 LBS of pecans yesterday evening
